White House scrambles to ease concerns over Ebola, lawmakers demand changes

The White House scrambled Wednesday to ease concerns over the spread of Ebola after a second Texas hospital worker tested positive for the virus, as lawmakers showed patience wearing thin with the current response and demanded immediate changes.

One lawmaker, Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., went so far as to call for the resignation of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden.

"This Ebola situation is beginning to spiral beyond control," Marino said in a statement, accusing the government of giving a "false sense of security to many of our citizens."

He and others urged the Obama administration to name a single point person to coordinate the Ebola response and to impose a travel ban for the affected West African countries -- a step the White House opposes.

If a Republican were in the White House, under the same circumstances, the Democrats would have already secured the resignation of the CDC Director and would be joining the press in speculating about the potential to impeach the president.

Real simple people. STOP THE G-D FLIGHTS TO WEST AFRICA! DO NOT LET ANYONE ON A US BOUND AIRCRAFT WHO IS SHOWING SYMPTOMS, OR WHO HAS BEEN IN WEST AFRICA. This isn’t hard, it is easy to stop. Far far easier to stop / prevent than to cure.

If Obama had been the mayor of New Orleans during the time of Katrina, he would have never launched the busses, he would have blamed the storm and deaths on Bush and allowed LEO’s to illegally confiscate firearms.

Is if they want it here. They want an excuse for marshal law. That would mean they are willing to sacrifice thousands of US citizens to further their political agenda. That should tell you evening you need to know about them. This thing gets out of hand here, it is intentional.

I did some research on what the CDC has been spending our money on...

A $702,558 grant for the study of the impact of televisions and gas generators on villages in Vietnam.

$175,587 to the University of Kentucky to study the impact of cocaine on the sex drive of Japanese quail.

$55,382 to study hookah smoking in Jordan.

$1.1 million to learn that golfers putt 10% better when they imagine the hole is bigger than it really is.

$592,527 to study why chimpanzees throw objects. And another $117,000 to learn that this chimps are mostly right handed.

$1m on a study of the sexual attraction of fruit flies

$2 million for a Hollywood liaison to develop plot lines about diseases

$106 million on a new visitor center in Atlanta (although it already had one). $30,000 on a spa. $200,000 on a fitness center.

$2.4 million dollars for a new "origami" condom design. Whose designer is now under investigation for government fraud.

$832,000 to learn if it was possible to get uncircumcised South American tribesmen to wash their genitals after sex.

$325,000 to learn that marriages are happier when the wife calms down faster than the husband.

$257,000 for "Virtual Spouts", an online game as a companion to Michelle Obamas White House Garden

$660,000 to learn that watching reruns of Seinfeld episodes, makes older people happier.

$484,000 to study if hypnosis can reduce hot flashes.

The current administration has refocused the CDC to other priorities. The prevention fund got $180 million. But the "Community transformation fund", got $507 million. The community grants are about teaching people in communities to eat healthier.

FYI, the CDC budget is 25% bigger than it was in 2008, and 188% bigger than 2001. For this years budget, the administration requested a budget cut to the CDC. The republicans in the house, added $300 million in funds back to the CDC before passing the budget in January.

...to impose a travel ban for the affected West African countries -- a step the White House opposes...Rep. Murphy said tonight that he had talked to Dr. Frieden and was told they were opposing the ban because the African countries where it would be imposed were "fledgling democracies" which would be hurt if travel from them was impeded - amazing - this has got to be some PC policy coming straight from the White House - a bizarre take on share the wealth where we're now going to help the poor by risking the lives of the "rich" in America - for those who doubted that when politicians start to meddle in medical decisions, healthcare suffers.....

An Ebola “SWAT Team” responding to suspected or confirmed Ebola cases within 24 hours is so much pabulum designed to keep the masses happy until...

Each suspected or confirmed Ebola patient needs a class IV isolation hospital to survive. That is, apparently, what enabled the two missionary doctors to survive Ebola earlier this summer.

So each “Ebola SWAT Team” will bring along a complete, stand alone level IV isolation hospital room? If not then your SWAT team is armed with pea shooters.

One more thought, each “Ebola SWAT Team” will need to provide 24/7 care for the suspected/confirmed Ebola patient for up to 24 days (the time it took Thomas Eric Duncan to die of his Ebola infection) plus clean up time before you could redeploy it to treat another Ebola patient.

Yes Mr President this isn’t anything like the flue.

Note the content in the title of this piece of gubmint tripe: "ease concerns"

Also note that it does not mention anything substantial about stopping the influx of plague carriers.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
