Europe’s Hidden Ebola Cases
The Daily Beast ^ | October 15, 2014 | Barbie Latza Nadeau

The Continent prepares for the virus to spread, but for many, it’s already here.

ROME, Italy — If you were surprised to hear the news that a Sudanese United Nations worker died of the deadly Ebola virus in a Berlin hospital on Tuesday, you might be even more surprised to learn just how many Ebola patients there are elsewhere in Europe.

The World Health Organization maintains that there are eight confirmed cases of the deadly virus in Europe tied to the current outbreak: two dead missionaries in Spain, one dead doctor in Germany, one cured man and one doctor in treatment in Germany, two tropical disease doctors in treatment in Holland and a Spanish nurse, Teresa Romero Ramos, under treatment in Spain. Romero Ramos contracted the virus from one of the dead Spanish missionaries. There are also at least a dozen or more suspect cases scattered around European hospitals that may or may not evolve into the full-blown virus.

Spain was the first country to accept important patients in Europe; it was also the first country to report a transmission outside of West Africa...

As of yesterday: ""Everybody's OK," said Aaron Yah, who is in quarantine along with other relatives of Duncan. He said that no one, including Duncan's girlfriend, has shown any signs of infection."

There is no date for Yah’s statement. It could have been a week ago and it’s on some unknown site rather than the Dallas Morning News or WFAA in Dallas. Face it, we haven’t heard from them or Jesse in days.

Luckiest people in the world!

Now they will sue Tex Presby and get $50,000,000.

Who says the streets of Dallas are not paved with gold?

Washington Post article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/cdc-chief-after-dallas-nurses-ebola-infection-us-must-rethink-protocols/2014/10/13/5317a9a8-530f-11e4-809b-8cc0a295c773_story.html

It's true they give no date for the statement, only imply that it is recent.

Gather the bodies.

Drop them into ISIS encampments.

Cheaper and more effective than bombs.

The more I hear about that TX hospital, the more I think it is about to be hit with some big lawsuits.

Infection control should be practiced in all hospitals, and it works *when used*. The CDC already publishes plenty of infection control protocols, but the best protocol in the world is ineffective when not used.

Safety training, including training in bloodborne pathogen control, is required on a regular basis for all healthcare workers and medical researchers. Evidence of such training must be documented for all workers.

This hospital dropped the ball.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
