"Alum (aluminum sulfate) was used in pickles and as a component in baking powder, among other things."
I didn't know that. I remember as a child, I had a canker sore in my mouth and my mother sprinkled powdered alum on it to deaden the pain.

All my cookware is stainless or iron. I will not ever cook with aluminum.

I hear you. Soap and water daily, sometimes twice a day in summer. I use Tom’s natural deodorant, right now the lemon scent. It’s been 30 years or more that I haven’t used antiperspirant. Eventually the stink will decrease as the toxins come out.
