The manhunt for accused Pennsylvania cop-killer Eric Frein is costing at least $1.1 million per week and has drawn in 300 troopers.
Frein, 31, a self-described survivalist and military reenactor, has been hiding out in eastern Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountain region after he allegedly gunned down one state trooper and wounded another on Sept. 12. Up to 150 state police working in 12-hour shifts have been searching the steep, rocky and wooded terrain for five weeks, the Allentown Morning Call reported.
But authorities may catch a break with the change in seasons. Price Township locals are already reporting a thinning of forest canopy as leaves begin to fall off trees. Police said that the barren environment will make it easier for them to use thermal imaging technology, PA Homepage reported.
"I think that will be his downfall, the winter," resident Linda Heller told PA Homepage. "Because there will be tracks and it will be easier for (police) to follow."

Giving a big boost to “da conomy”.
...and the Keystone COPs are tripping all over their spurs. Episodes like this reveal just how inept the police truly are.
I doubt that this killer is still in the woods; or at least those woods.
Unless "the economy" is the officers' paychecks.
They have 1000 state police on the job looking for him. It’s a good time to commit crimes in the area don’t ya think?
$1.1 million a week sucked from the economy is more like it.
Where is it going anyway?
I’m not defending the cop-killer but would they spend anything near this on the average peasant?
I guess the cops will have to go for more civil forfeitures to make up the difference.
You can count on one thing, cancelling the Halloween events and unlimited spending will not endear the cops to an increasing segment of the community.
Is he still in the Poconos? Is he still in Pennsylvania?
I think that a guy that planed his murder off a state trooper well enough to escape after the killing and set up weapons and food cashes for his escape probably had multiple escape routes from the state planned as well
He is probably already dead
Not worth it. From what I read, the cop was banging someone’s wife and now we spend a mil a week to catch the guy who shot him in the groin?
Nuts...
What? Do you have a link to that. I have been following story and never ready that.
The guy on the left looks like he needs a doughnut with sprinkles on it.
“What? Do you have a link to that. I have been following story and never ready that.”
There was a thread on FR where it was discussed a while back.
So who drew First Blood?
Overtime, there's gold in them thar hills.
Bingo...the killer has spent more time in the woods than the cops, and he had plenty of time to prepare hiding places, stockpile ammo and supplies AND map out multiple escape routes.
Remember the time and effort devoted to the search for Eric Rudolph, the abortion clinic and Olympic Park bomber in Atlanta? The feds spent five years tracking him in the mountains of North Carolina, without success. He was finally captured by a rookie cop who spotted Rudolph dumpster diving for scraps of food.
The accused cop killer in Pennsylvania appears to be much better prepared, armed and equipped than Rudolph. If he is captured, it will probably be far away from the search area.
I find it amazing how much manpower and money is being used to find just ONE man on the loose.
