Countries from around the world have pledged $5.4 billion to help rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip, the Palestinian enclave along the Mediterranean.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Boerge Brende announced the total Sunday at the close of a 30-nation donor conference in Cairo.
Earlier, Brende had said there were many legitimate questions about “why donor countries should once again pick up the bill for rebuilding what warring parties have torn down” at a time when there was no agreement on a lasting cease-fire or sound political framework.

They'll get weapons, but reconstruction comes first. Lots of tunnels need to be repaired; concrete and shovels will cost money!

The amusing part of this is that Arab nations are really big with promising, not so much with delivering.

Yep - we ought to just supply them with some concrete and shovels instad of giving them cash. I usually offer the 'beggars" actual food or a couple gallons of gas in their car instead of cash - it's funny how they "appreciate" getting what they supposedly wanted the money for.
