Ted Cruz Is Coming To South Carolina

LIKELY 2016 HOPEFUL HEADS TO PALMETTO UPSTATE

By FITSNEWS  ||  U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz - a presumptive candidate for president of the United States – will travel to early-voting South Carolina this week for a series of events.

Cruz’s trip is focused on the socially conservative Upstate – where “Republicans” are currently up in arms this week after the U.S. Supreme Court’s “non-ruling” on gay marriage appears to have paved the way for the demise of the state’s 2006 same sex marriage ban.

In fact Cruz will campaign at one point with S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson – who has drawn criticism for his defense of the state’s ban.

How will he address the issue?  We’ll have to wait and see …

There are three public events on Cruz’s schedule …

First, Cruz will address a GOP women’s gathering organized by former party chairwoman Karen Floyd on Saturday, October 11 in Spartanburg, S.C.  That event will be held at 11:00 a.m. EDT at the Spartanburg Community College’s downtown campus auditorium (107 Community College Drive).

Next, Cruz will join Wilson at a tailgate party in Clemson, S.C. prior to the Clemson-Louisville football game.  That event will take place at 2:00 p.m. EDT at gate one of Clemson Memorial Stadium (1 Avenue of Champions).

The following day – Sunday, October 12 – Cruz will appear at an ice cream social organized by the Greenville and Spartanburg Republican parties.  That event is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EDT at the River Falls Golf Resort Club House (100 Player Boulevard) in Duncan, S.C.

Sources familiar with Cruz’s visits say there will be several other private gatherings, most of them described as “informal” meetings with key players in the Palmetto State.

Our thoughts on Cruz?

Obviously there’s a lot to like about him … especially on the fiscal front.  Unlike most “Republicans” in Washington, D.C., Cruz has been a reliable pro-free market, pro-freedom vote (which is why this website has frequently sung his praises).  Of course he’s also a “neoconservative” (a.k.a. warmonger) … which is a problem.

He’s also completely in the tank for Israel … which only feeds his “neoconservatism.”

Still, Cruz – along with Rand Paul – is one of the few “Republican” candidates we believe is worthy of a serious look during the upcoming “First in the South” presidential primary circus.  At a time when most Washington “Republicans” were rolling over on funding for U.S. president Barack Obama’s socialized medicine monstrosity … Cruz was mounting an impassioned filibuster against it.

Accordingly, we will look forward to seeing what sort of policies he rolls out over the course of the upcoming campaign if he, as is expected, ultimately becomes a candidate.

For more info on Cruz, check out his official Senate page or the website for the Jobs Growth and Freedom fund, a political action committee that’s supporting his efforts.

Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

It is things like this that make it imperative for the Republicans to win the Senate majority in November.

As much influence as he has now, he will have a much bigger impact if he is the de facto Majority leader in the Senate.

McConnell doesn’t have this kind of energy or gumption. Cruz obviously does.

I feel kind of cheated that he’s here for two days and is spending the entire time in the upstate. There are lots and lots of Conservatives who cheer Ted Cruz that do not live in the upstate.

"feeds his 'neoconservatism'..." - wonder why he had to throw that little epithet in there? Maybe because "neoconservative" is a code word for...

"psssst! Da jooos"

How many Senators can we count on to vote Cruz Majority Leader?

I imagine McConnell will remain as Republican Senate leader, unfortunately. But Cruz will be the ideological leader, with more energy and media time, esp if he is a likely Presidential candidate.
