Why do so many liberals despise Christianity?
The Week ^ | Oct. 8, 2014 | Damon Linker

Liberals increasingly want to enforce a comprehensive, uniformly secular vision of the human good. And they see alternative visions of the good as increasingly intolerable. Liberalism seems to have an irrational animus against Christianity.

Liberals (like Islamists 7 Communists0 always say that that they are freedom of speech and tolerance...until they are in a position of power to censor others. Then we see that they don't want to let others challenge their beliefs. The perfect examples of this are communist countries and liberal universities, with all of their PC speech codes. Liberals never were for everyone having freedom. They only say that while it is useful for them.

Liberalism seems to have an irrational animus against Christianity.

If the first statement is true then that animus is not irrational.

Maybe because Christianity is the religion of God and Liberals are adherents to the Religion of Satan?

Darkness hates the light, especially the Light of the World.

"If you were of the world, the world would love its own.
Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world,
therefore the world hates you."

Views which did not always prevail in America, as can be see in the following:

Proclamation for
National Day of Humiliation,
Fasting, and Prayer

President Abraham Lincoln

WHEREAS, The Senate of the United States; devoutly recognizing the Supreme authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and nations, has, by a resolution, requested the President to designate and set apart a day for National prayer and humiliation.

And Whereas, it is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.

And, insomuch as we know that, by His Divine law, nations like individuals are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People. We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown.

But we have forgotten God.

We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do, by this my proclamation, designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer. And I do hereby request all the People to abstain, on that day, from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite, at their several places of public worship and their respective homes, in keeping the day holy to the Lord, and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.

All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope, authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering Country, to its former happy condition of unity and peace.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this thirtieth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty seventh.

Abraham Lincoln,
President

William H Seward,
Secretary of State

The Senate resolution requesting the president to proclaim a day for "national prayer and humiliation"
was introduced by Senator James Harlan on March 2, and adopted on March 3, 1863.

Oh, you can go through ALL the “Big 10” and show how the leftist ideology is diametrically opposed to them.

And the seven deadlies - how they support all of them.

It’s no surprise. “Liberalism” is simply the political expression of the religion of Humanism, founded by Satan, and eternally in opposition to the Law of Christ.

“Liberals increasingly want to enforce a comprehensive, uniformly secular vision of the human good.”

If you see “liberals” as aspiring to any sort of good, then it is understandable that you would be confused. Liberal are of darkness, are empty and unhappy. They want to recreate a world that is compatible with their dark, evil self. They seek to destroy all that is good, decent, productive.

I would say it’s because they actually may have a conscience they want to completely smother, snuff out. In their heart of hearts they know their favorite sins are still sins. And they can’t stand to think that they are bad and what they espouse is bad. They just don’t want to hear it. They still intuitively know it’s true. They are sinners, they know it, but they are trying to unknow it.

It’s a spiritual thing and a psychological thing.

I don’t think the liberals know why themselves.

One reason may be that they can see, either consciously or unconsciously, that Christianity nullifies everything they believe which is perfection of mankind and social institutions by the work of man. They don’t want to believe that man is sinful nor can’t but sin.

Christianity presents moral absolutes and exclusive truth claims.

That doesn’t square with moral relativism, multiculturalism, and “diversity”.

Using constitutionally nonexistent federal government powers to legalize sin wins votes for liberals.

And they embrace Islam, what can only be described as an inversion of Christianity. We Christians endure suffering as it is part of God’s salvific mission for us - to help mold us into the image of Christ. The Islamic plan is to make someone else suffer. Can’t get more twisted than that. Liberals love everything that is evil and are impervious to rational thought and practical reason.

I think the liberals see the Church as an institution not always in lockstep with their most cherished institution: the state.

Cultural Marxism.

“By the end of WWI, socialists realized that something was amiss, for the world’s proletariat had not heeded Marx’s call to rise up in opposition to evil capitalism and to embrace communism instead. They wondered what had gone wrong.

Separately, two Marxist theorists-Antonio Gramsci of Italy and Georg Lukacs of Hungary-concluded that the Christianized West was the obstacle standing in the way of a communist new world order. The West would have to be conquered first.

Gramsci posited that because Christianity had been dominant in the West for over 2000 years, not only was it fused with Western civilization, but it had corrupted the workers class. The West would have to be de-Christianized, said Gramsci, by means of a “long march through the culture.” Additionally, a new proletariat must be created. In his “Prison Notebooks,” he suggested that the new proletariat be comprised of many criminals, women, and racial minorities.”

and Homosexuality.

“The teaching that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds and constraints of marriage is the only acceptable form should be reason enough for any homosexual to denounce the Christian religion” Advocate, 1985.

Why do so many liberals despise Christianity?

Because they are (consciously or unconsciously) batting for the other team. The one with the horns and pitchfork logo. The perpetual anger is demonstrative of that.
