More than a dozen states plan to cancel health care policies not in compliance with ObamaCare in the coming weeks, affecting thousands of people just before the midterm elections.
"It looks like several hundred thousand people across the country will receive notices in the coming days and weeks," said Jim Capretta of the Ethics and Public Policy Center.
The policies are being canceled because states that initially granted a reprieve at the request of President Obama are no longer willing to do so.
In coming weeks, 13 states and the District of Columbia plan to cancel such policies, which generally fall out of compliance with the Affordable Care Act because they dont offer the level of coverage the law requires.
Virginia will be hardest hit, with 250,000 policies expected to be canceled.
And because federal law requires a 60-day notice of any plan changes, voters will be notified no later than November 1, right before the Nov. 4 midterms.

Obama strikes again!
I'm forced to change plans and buy an advantage plan with a HUGE deductible. I really can't afford living any longer. And there is no doubt that Obamacare is at fault.
EVERYTHING in my life is more expensive NOW.
But my life style is unchanged... at least not for the better.
If anything, I am being even MORE frugal.
It isn’t working. I am looking for a part time job in addition to my straight boogie... otherwise my savings will be gone
The low-information voters thought they were getting healthcare for free (or at least heavily subsidized); what they were getting was health INSURANCE that would be too costly for most to even use.
Republicans need to hang support for ObamaCare around the neck of every Dem that supported it, and draw a high price for their destruction of our health insurance sector.
If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.
If you like your doctor, you can keep him.
Cancelled just BEFORE the election?
I doubt it.
Something will change, or an exception discovered.
These people will have coverage for at least another quarter.
yeah you can keep it. You can keep it far away.
If you move here you can get an advantage plan with no monthly premium
‘Change you can bereave in!’
Last year my Blue Cross Blue Shield policy was “grandfathered”, but it will be terminated on Dec 31 this year. Starting Nov 15 I get to look at the alternative plans they will have available, and suspect every one will cost more than what I’m paying now.
For the presidential election, all of the Obamacare mandates will be in place and the masses will have experienced the entire crap sandwich they were sold. If the republicans can't win the white house in 2016, they will never win it again.
You will pay more and get less coverage and in all probability you can’t see your doctor because the insurance won’t reimburse him enough to make him want to treat you.
Like the commercial says, what’s good having health insurance if no doctor will see you?
I hear you, many of us are in the same boat. Enrollment time is here, I got the packet in the mail but I dread opening and reading the dang thing. Things are really depressing all the way around. I already have a sleeping disorder and my insomnia has kicked into high gear. I don’t see any brightness for the future. Things look so bleak. Maybe I’m too much of a news junkie and need to lay off for awhile:(
Normally Obama would get creative to minimize the impact on Democrats but he’s so unpopular any additional delays in implementing the law won’t bring political benefits that Democrats can count on it.
And they all voted for it.
I’m in Upstate NY. We have plans with no premium. But the deductibles are more than all my assets.
Oopsie! "Mistakes were made".
Enjoy all those votes you cast for Democrats, Virginia!
