“Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, the study found.”

It took 20 years to gather common knowledge into one comprehensive study?

One of the flaws in studies like this is the focus on kids who use it. The fact is that, since teenagers are in such a critical phase of physical, mental and emotional development, virtually ANYTHING that disrupts that development will have lasting effects. Too much junk food could have a negative effect on a kid’s development. The negative effects on an adult might be much less or even non-existent. Since these studies are either used to bolster or hurt arguments for legalization, a concept which never has included allowing kids access, they are largely irrelevant to that discussion. In fact, even if some negative effectsare well-documented for adults, it is STILL irrelevant because the issue at hand is not whether the drug is harmless, but whether adults have the right to make that choice for themselves. And we have established that they do, both Constitutionally and through our little experiment with prohibition.

Pot smokers are the only people who don’t know this.

This article is a load of rubbish ... I mean, like, I've used weed for longer than that ... and like, I've never had any of that stuff happen to me ... and like, I'm the smartest person on the planet ... and like, I'm still a natural leader ... and like, I'm whatever I was saying ... and like, whatever ... dude!

Gee... another "study," posted on a forum that is largely (and rightfully) suspicious of studies. I guess I'll just believe everything in it, including the rampant causation/correlation non-logic.

Bottom line is alcohol is FAR more harmful and dangerous in nearly every way, yet we don't have Fed.gov crashing in doors like some "freedom loving" FReepers seem to advocate

A lot of FReepers (especially those who show up on these threads) really aren't conservatives and/or constitutionalists in any way. They're just nostalgic post-menopausals who want things to stay like they were in the good ol' days.

There is nothing in the these "revelations" that suggests that cannabis is more harmful than beer, shall we ban beer and legalize pot?

I used to smoke pot — back in that decade between the sixties and the eighties. Pot is not addictive, but it is a complete waste of life if too much is smoked. These days, if you are smoking pot, you are probably slumming with trash, and not achieving what you might. It is a bad habit. But it is not addictive.

There are far worse things happening, for example, redistribution of property. I’d gladly suffer pot heads roaming the streets, if they and their allies were not consuming my property and liberty.

Let them have their lifestyle, and shoot them if they try to take yours.

I’m afraid the pot-heads and advocates of “medical” marijuana aren’t going to like this.

The information is corroborated in many studies. And it will be corroborated in many more, as more people start to focus on marijuana research.

Getting high does alter the brain. Can’t be good in excess on a daily basis.

Every item listed can also be said of the LEGAL use of alcohol and/or tobacco.
Keep it away from kids and prosecute those that endanger others. It is a choice for adults to make.

Let’s make your “Makers Mark” and “Marlboro”s illegal, then we can talk. What I put in my body is my concern not yours.

And don’t tell me about the cost of social dependency caused by use. Then I tell you about the generational THEFT that is taking place for all those who saved NOTHING for their “golden years”? “Why should I pay” is not an argument. If we followed the Constitution you wouldn’t have to pay.

I’m still cranky, haven’t had my “medicine” yet. A weee taste of poitin!

Twenty years to come up with the same crap Reefer Madness tried to pass off as science? This is the anti-gun logic; because something used irresponsibly can cause harm, let's ban it's possession and use for everyone. Yes, 16 year-olds shouldn't smoke dope. They shouldn't drink whiskey either. Obligatory disclaimer: the strongest drug I use is coffee. No dope, no alcohol, no nicotine.

I have no more faith in this study than I do the Michael Mann hockey stick global warming graph.

From personal experience, I KNOW marijuana is NOT addictive.

From personal experience, I KNOW that marijuana will actually sober up a drunk, stop the double vision, end the urge to vomit, slow a drunken driver down, & improve the ability to drive home after a party.

Teenagers should not be using ANY kind of drugs, alcohol included. Tell that to the educators, doctors, & bureaucrats who rush to medicate kids with so-called behavioral problems.

If you want you kids to reject drugs & alcohol, YOU (parents & family) must be the example by totally rejecting them yourself. Monkey see, monkey do.

The study author is a United Nations paid LIAR, just like everyone else at the UN.

Just from first-hand observation during 24yrs of law enforcement experience. Pot smokers quickly descend into the habit of: smoking weed becomes all they want to do, all day long, munch junkfood, knod off and start smoking again as soon as they awake. Not much of a life.
