From a U.S. Central Command News Release

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5, 2014 – U.S. military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria yesterday and today, using fighter aircraft to conduct three airstrikes.

Separately, in Iraq U.S. military forces used helicopters and attack, bomber, and fighter aircraft to conduct six airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq.

In Syria, one strike northwest of Al Mayadin destroyed an ISIL bulldozer, two ISIL tanks and destroyed another ISIL vehicle. Two strikes northwest of Ar Raqqah struck a large ISIL unit and destroyed six ISIL firing positions. To conduct these strikes, the U.S. employed fighter aircraft deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of operations. All aircraft departed the strike areas safely.

In Iraq, four strikes northeast of Fallujah struck two mortar teams, a large ISIL unit and two small ISIL units. One strike southeast of Hit destroyed two ISIL Humvees. One strike northeast of Sinjar destroyed an ISIL Humvee. To conduct these strikes, the U.S. employed helicopters and attack, bomber, fighter aircraft deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of operations. All aircraft departed the strike areas safely.

The U.S. strikes were conducted as part of President Barack Obama's comprehensive strategy to degrade and destroy ISIL. The destruction and degradation of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group's ability to lead, control, project power and conduct operations.

Looking like too little too late to prevent a historic humanitarian disaster in Kobani. The US and Turks stand and watch from a short distance as IS overruns a large population of Kurds. Blood on our hands.

The world’s attention in this conflict now centers around Kobane. Kobane is the besieged Kurdish city that is defended by outnumbered but entrenched and motivated Kurds. ISIS has bragged that it will take the city and behead the defenders. However an assaulting conventional combined arms force is a dream target for experienced well trained airmen. If Obama is truly serious about destroying ISIS, then Kobane can become for ISIS what Stalingrad was for the Germans.

When the helicopter is in Syria, isn’t that “boots on the ground”?

All we’re doing is swatting at flies. No, I will not agree that we send US soldiers into this battle. I’m so very tired of trying to save the MUSLIMS from themselves. Now, if the Muslim nations unite to fight off these Monsters, I’d be will to support them. Yep, I will hold their coat while they fight these demons in their countries. But, to send more of our troops to fight off these demons, while the rest of the Muslim world stands back and just hold our coats, nothing doing.

“One strike southeast of Hit destroyed two ISIL Humvees.”

We probably spent 150K on the HMMV, then another 100K to get it there, and then 500K to blow it up with smart weaponry so that innocent bystanders (????) wouldn’t get injured.

Those not willing to fight for their country are not worth arming or fighting for.

All our export weapons need to have a kill/detonate feature. Arms to Israel are exempt from this requirement.

An MI 35
Most likely flown by a mercenary.
ISIS does seem to have a few later model manpads.

Whatever they are the takeaway about using US helicopters in such attacks is that they are now probably based in or at least staging from a location in Iraq. Boots on the ground combat unit.

In the past I totally agreed about sending US troops to fight in the Middle East, and I still do to a great degree. However, never have we had so barbaric an adversary, and at some point it becomes a genuine reason to fight. When an American is beheaded on video for their “entertainment”, we should respond with such a force that would turn these brown bastards white! I’m sure plenty volunteers can be found to fill whatever boots are necessary. And we should continue until not one person on earth dares to admit he agrees with this insane IS agenda.

So far I don’t recall seeing a woman beheaded, nor an Israeli. I’m sure they could find some if they so chose, but I believe it’s possibly the same reason Hitler didn’t use poison gas even when he knew all was lost: the response would have been unthinkable.
