Hambycast: Rand Paul's campus challenge
CNN ^ | October 3, 2014 | Peter Hamby

Posted on 10/03/2014 12:15:04 PM PDT by BurningOak

"I am not opposed to birth control," he said. After a pause, he elaborated. "That's basically what Plan B is. Plan B is taking two birth control pills in the morning and two in the evening, and I am not opposed to that."

...

Another student here pressed him on "the drug war," asking if Paul would support legalizing marijuana, cocaine and heroin. He said he wasn't supportive of drug use, explaining that pot "is not that great," but said drug laws should be left up to states. Colorado and Washington are experimenting with legalized marijuana, he said, and we should be watching carefully.

...

"Society's changing," he said. "I mean, people change their minds all the time on this issue, and even within the Republican Party, there are people whose child turns out to be gay and they're like, oh well maybe I want to rethink this issue. So it's been rethought. The President's rethought the issue. So I mean, a lot of people have rethought the issue."

It sounded, for a moment, as if Paul was hinting that he, too, could change his thinking about marriage.

"The bottom line is, I'm old fashioned, I'm a traditionalist," he said. "I believe in old-fashioned traditional marriage. But, I don't really think the government needs to be too involved with this, and I think that the Republican Party can have people on both sides of the issue."

The quotes speak for themselves. McCain and Romney were RINOs, but atleast they ran as conservatives. This guy is pretty much an open libertarian. The Cruz/Paul battle will be a referendum on the GOP being a conservative vs libertarian party.

Bottom line: Libertarians are more dedicated to their asinine worldview than they are to America. Like Marxists, they will stay true to their ideology regardless of how inane, unworkable and ineffective it may be.

McCain and Romney were RINOs, but atleast they ran as conservatives.

You make it sound like lying about who you are is the better thing. McCain is a traitor and Romney is a hard core liberal.

Who said that?

Rand Paul is a lying, evasive, contradictory mess that closely resembles Mitt Romney in the honesty department.

I know you're stupid and I know you're a liar but I did think you could read.

LOL, you guys are a nasty bunch, already you are in the gutter and making false accusations and insults.

Rand Paul belongs alongside Mitt Romney and John McCain in being a rino, and in honesty in the way that he fakes conservatism sometimes, and reveals his libertarian leftism at other times.

If you want to try and promote the guy, can’t you do so without always being in a rage?

If you want to try and promote the guy,...

Proving that you're a liar was not necessary. Or is your reading comprehension as poor as your moral compass?

Total loser! He just sticks his finger in the wind.

And he’s supposed to be smart? He doesn’t even know how Plan B works. Isn’t he a doctor?

I don’t give a rats ass if a friend or collegue are gay or have gay kids. Doesn’t change my mind on same sex marraige which is “no”.

I have no idea what you were trying to say there.

Are you saying that you don’t support Paul, that your white hot raging doesn’t indicate anger, that you think that people who support morality and and believe in it enough to oppose anti-moral social liberals, lack a moral compass?

I take a poster to task over a thinly disguised defense of McCain and Romney and you jump in and through some convoluted sophistry turn my remark around into a defense of Paul. Clearly I upset you by defaming McCain and Romney.

I didn’t see it as a defense of McCain and Romney, but as an awkwardly formed attack on Paul, who deserves attack for his dishonesty and shape shifting and liberalism.

I think your interpretation of my post is wrong. McCain, Romney, and Paul are cut from the same political cloth. But while McCain and Romney tried to hide their moderate records and views during the elections, Paul is open about it. That is all.

Thanks for clarifying things ansell, people are way too sensitive here.

Fair enough. It was in the way you wrote it. I don’t think ansel clarified anything though. He disagrees with your assessment that Paul is open about who he is. I agree with you on that. My point was that I prefer Paul’s openness because it allows me to reject him for what he is based on what he says. McCain and Romney require you to deconstruct their lies in order to expose what they really are.

He's got a pretty solid voting record according to conservativereview.com.

Perhaps, and only perhaps, he's a conservative who operates the way libs do-that being, play to the masses until you're elected; then govern according to your principles.
