Russia is starting to use the same line on Baltic countries that it used to invade Ukraine

A senior Russian Foreign Ministry official says that Moscow has a responsibility to protect ethnic Russian citizens of other countries, "regardless of where they live," and that "we will do everything possible to defend the rights and interests" of ethnic Russian minorities in the neighboring Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The comments came from Anatoly Makarov, the director of the Foreign Ministry's Department for Interaction with Compatriots Abroad. He was speaking to the Russian outlet RuBaltic, as translated by Paul Goble. "We are carrying out a line so that Russian compatriots regardless of where they live are guaranteed all rights and freedoms ... and have the opportunity to preserve the culture and traditions of their historical Motherland," Makarov said, explicitly extending this to the million-plus ethnic Russians who are citizens of Baltic countries.

I read this and found myself feeling both outraged and afraid. I'm outraged that the Russians would think of this and I'm afraid that Obama will let them get away with it.

Some of us here said there was a very good chance of this if Poopin we didn’t stand up to him in the Ukraine.

Well, here we go. And folks if he does get the Balkins, all bets are off.

This guy will proceed until stopped.

Wow, history does indeed repeat itself. This was the same excuse that Hitler used to invade. . . I mean “liberate” ethnic Germans in various surrounding nations.

It's "Baltics." :)

One of our Russophiles presently will be by to explain that this is the US/EU's fault.

No doubt. It’s the Hitlers in each of them that got the ‘pure as the driven snow’ Poopin involved.

a responsibility to protect ethnic Russian citizens of other countries, "regardless of where they live,"...

Wow. Excuses for annexing the Sudetenland all over again.

These same Russkies still riot every time someone spray paints on a Lenin monument or any of the other eye sores called “art” leftover by the former Soviet regimes. They are like the Muslims of the Slavic world. No one will be sad to see them deported. Most of them are the children of Gulag guards or other scum of the Earth that Russia colonized there after killing off the locals.

Time for everyone bordering Soviet Russia to deport ethnic Russians?

Starting with anyone holding a Russian passport.

responsibility to protect ethnic Russian citizens of other countries

This is the exact same justification that Hitler used for his annexation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 -- to protect ethnic Germans living in that country. This is indeed a troubling prospect for any nation sharing a border with Russia.

I'm afraid that Obama will let them get away with it.

That is the true problem Megan my Dear.

Putin has changed since 1999. He is the same as always.

Just know with Ubama's Weakening of America he can act much more boldly.

A Robust American Energy Policy would at least make the Russians Look at their Checkbook and think "maybe we don't have enough for this crap"

This again is a direct result of Obama and he is ideologically incapable of doing anything but making the situation worse.
