Hundreds of Thousands Face Health Law Subsidy Deadline At Risk of Losing or Having to Pay Back Health Insurance Subsidies from Affordable Care Act

By STEPHANIE ARMOUR Updated Sept. 29, 2014 Americans in the hundreds of thousands may lose or have to pay back health insurance subsidies from Obamacare if they don't meet a Tuesday deadline. WASHINGTON—Hundreds of thousands of Americans face a Tuesday deadline to verify their income and are at risk of losing or having to pay back their federal health-insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

The need for people to pay back the government could become a headache during next year's tax season, when Americans are expected to pay back any subsidies they weren't eligible for.

The Obama administration has told more than 300,000 individuals who obtained coverage through the federal HealthCare.gov site that they may lose some or all of the subsidies if they don't provide additional income information that jibes with Internal Revenue Service data. That information includes tax returns, wages and tax statements, pay stubs and letters from employers.

Hundreds of thousands of people who obtained health coverage through state exchanges also have documentation issues and could potentially be getting subsidies they aren't eligible for.

Man, I was going to suggest that our 30 year old son, who is single, and was out of work.... apply for CoveredCalifornia. Now I am glad I didn’t do that! He found a job, and it is very low pay, at least for now, but he would be having to pay back that subsidy.

BTW he had a plan he liked that we could afford, but then due to ObamaCare his monthly premium and annual deductable went up almost double. And he hasn’t been to a doctor since about 2005.

Anyone who can’t afford medical care just lie. Change your name to Sanchez and say you’re an illegal immigrant from Mexico. American citizens are chumps.

In states with expanded medicare, you are kicked into medicare with income below 138%. Once your income is over 138% of the poverty level then you can buy subsidized insurance. If your income is over 400% of the poverty level at the end of the year then all subsidies taken would be have to be paid back. People are suppose to notify the exchanges right away with any change in income. If your making $12 a hour and then get a $2 raise, it isn't a big deal. If you jump to $25 dollars a hour mid year, you're not going to lose all subsidies for the current year. You will lose the subsidies for the next year.

So, why in hell didnt obamacare cover the poorest folk like they did the people who earn a little more? Why did they make it instead that the po’ folk had to be kicked into medicaid?

I KNOW why. The po’ are being used as a bribe to make red state gubners, from states of people who did not want obamacare to begin with, to try and make these gubners do the work for obama to make obamacare work. And at the same time, give liberal dogs something to beat Republicans with, as if it is the fault of the Republicans that the po’ dont have their obamacare.

Follow the money. Insurance companies get paid to administer medicaid.
