With his frequent trips to the early primary states and recent staff changes, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., is looking increasingly like somebody intending to run for president in 2016 and it's easy to see why he would be tempted to do so.
The next Republican race is going to be wide open, with no clear frontrunner, and the limited polling that exists on 2016 suggests Cruz would be starting out right in the mix with other candidates. If he declines to run and a Republican goes on to win the presidency, the earliest he'd be able to try would likely be in 2024 and by that point, he could have to contend with whoever served as vice president for eight years.
Sign Up for the Politics Today newsletter! If Cruz jumps into the race next year, he'd be doing so at a time when he's still viewed as a rock star among many conservatives. But if he has to wait 4, 8, or 12 years, a lot could change. He could start to look old and entrenched, part of the institution of Washington. His star could fade, and somebody else could rise up to replace him in the hearts of conservative activists. Were he to run in 2016, Cruz would have the same level of Senate experience as Barack Obama did in 2008, and Obama's victory validated the strategy of striking while the iron's hot.
Cruz may be thinking to himself, "If Obama could do it, why can't I?"
Though running for president in 2016 represents an opportunity for Cruz, it also represents a potentially huge risk, because a run could undermine his long-term effectiveness as a Senator. Cruz is a focal point of the effort to make sure there's a critical mass of conservatives in the Senate

Cruz may be thinking to himself, “If Obama could do it, why can’t I?”
Obama can’t do it.
Huh?
Obama can do it, if by "can do it" you meaning beating RINO candidates in two elections.
Besides, Cruz is not Obama. I think he could do it, especially against Hillary, Liz or any other potential Dem candidate.
No. If Cruz runs he’ll have twice the experience barry obama the jug-eared wonder had.
I am ready for a Cruz.
“Obama can do it, if by “can do it” you meaning beating RINO candidates in two elections.”
I obviously misread something. I thought the writer meant, “be president”.
Cruz will have to go conservative and attack the Rats AND the RINOs right from the start.
Obama DID do it.
As a freshman senator like Ted, with a worse record than Ted, he beat out the hands on favorite, Hillary.
So yeah. Ted can beat out Romney or any other has been the Repugs pick for us.

Ted Cruz has a significant advantage over other potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates in that he does NOT have to “go conservative”. He actually is a TRUE constitutional conservative and does not have to pretend to be conservative as the “GOPe candidates” must do.
I’m “all in” for Ted Cruz in 2016 and I hope my fellow constitutional conservatives are also.
Cruz is the only breath of fresh air conservatives have seen.
He’s willing to play the kind of smash-mouth politics others are not.
He’s capable of delivering the message without it getting watered down by handlers.
He’s capable of refuting liberal arguments and making the liberal look foolish in the process.
Me too. What Ted really needs is an early endorsement by the talk radio heavyweights, Rush, Sean, Glenn and Mark. Otherwise, the big money will rally around their nominee, win the early primaries, then cruise to victory as they routinely do.

Naturalization Acts of March 26, 1790, 1 Stat. 103; April 14, 1802, 2 Stat. 153; June 27, 1952, 66 Stat. 163. Grok it.
“No. If Cruz runs hell have twice the experience barry obama the jug-eared wonder had.”
Check your math.
Zero * 2 = Zero.
I agree. However, Rush Limbaugh (with good reason) avoids explicitly endorsing in primaries. But Rush will let his audience know that Cruz IS a true constitutional conservative and is the real deal.
Mark Levin does not avoid primary endorsements and I certainly hope he's on board early. Mark can be trusted to KNOW which candidates are TRUE constitutional conservatives. His “bull crap detector” is well developed and he knows which candidates don't pass the smell test. I wish the same could be said for Sean Hannity who is sometimes apparently taken in by the personalities of some of the conservative poseurs.
Cruz is the smartest guy out there so far. If he's in the race, he'll direct the dialogue toward a positive presentation of constitutional conservative principles. Our problem has been fake conservatives and/or conservatives that don't articulate a conservative vision of the future very well.
The other plus of Cruz being in the race is he's a skillful enough speaker and debater that he'll keep the dems and the RINO backstabbers on defense.
Losing didn’t seem to undermine Juan McLame any. The coot still controls the levers of power within the party.
Cruz will do fine. He’d stomp Hilwitch
What you say is so true that truth itself is a very lie by comparison.
I agree with your assessment 100% which is why I am so excited at the prospect of Cruz running. I hope he does.
