Feminist: Colleges should spend less time on sexual PC & more time teaching about the real threat...
The London Daily Mail ^ | September 29, 2014 | Snejana Farberov

Self-described 'dissident feminist' Camille Paglia has written an op-ed piece for Time Magazine arguing that female college students are naive and careless about the true nature of men as sexual predators.

Paglia, 67, a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, penned the column this week in reaction to the recent abduction of University of Virginia sophomore Hannah Graham, 18, who was last seen two weeks ago in the company of a 32-year-old nursing assistant.

Jesse Matthew was captured in Texas last week and charged with abduction with intent to defile, but so far there is no sign of Graham.

In her provocative opinion piece, Paglia builds her argument on the premise that young, college-age women often become victims of sexual assault because they have a false sense of security and do not keep their guard up in public places.

Dismissing claims about an epidemic of sex assaults on campuses as 'wildly overblown,' the well-respected social critic writes that the true danger to female students is 'the ancient sex crime of abduction and murder.'

She goes so far as to say that colleges should stick to academics instead of lecturing students about sex assault, which in her mind is an exercise in futility.

Paglia essentially says that on a biological level, men are wild beasts driven by atavistic desires, and that our society has done women a great disservice by leading them to believe otherwise.

'Too many young middleclass women, raised far from the urban streets, seem to expect adult life to be an extension of their comfortable, overprotected homes,' Paglia says. 'But the world remains a wilderness. The price of women’s modern freedoms is personal responsibility for vigilance and self-defense.'

Paglia also takes a swipe at the American education system....

After 20 plus years of co-ed dorms, not to mention co-ed dorm rooms....now she thinks “warning women” is the answer.....?

What does she think about unisex bathrooms?

Anybody worried about predators there?

If women were allowed to carry guns then the incidence of rape would decline. I suspect that Democrats and rapists would be against this. — Captain Compassion

For a feminist lesbian, Paglia often gets it right. She gets it right in everything she says in this essay except the one or two lines about how the political rightwing is not getting it right. But her condemnation of the left and Marxism and the infantilism of universities’ overreach into micromanaging its little utopians in their unreal academic bubbles is spot on.

Can’t help but wonder what Ms.Graham was doing with the likes of Jesse Matthew. Was she brainwashed by PC professors into believing that guys her own age were bad news? [Especially white guys]

What happened to Gender Equality? How does she get away with these Sexist statements?

Great point! How come it doesn't read:

on a biological level, women are wild beasts driven by atavistic desires

That girl was drunk as all get out. So was the other girl that Matthews is connected with kidnapping, raping and killing.

So it seems to me that these girls, one of which was only 18, the other girls age I don’t know, would be better served to be warned to stay SOBER and thereby stay safe.

Not an exact quote, but close enough.

camille better include lesbians in the sexual predator list. lesbians are victims of domestic abuse higher than a normal man/woman couple.

Thing is, that it’s time college women stop being taught that all men will do as they say and when they say it. Getting drunk is stupid; getting drunk around a bunch of men you barely know is even stupider and not being self aware enough to know when you’re becoming unsteady is irresponsible.

Men in college are out for all the sex they can get and are eager to get as many women into the sack as they can. Young women need to be taught that the rest of the world isn’t like the supportive bubble they often come from. The university isn’t supposed to take care of them.

Last, if a young woman wastes her time getting drunk instead of getting an education, she has no business blaming anyone but herself. I disagree that universities should look after students, it’s the job of the student to get a real education and actually produce.

and let’s be clear, at that age range in particular, both guys and gals drink to lower inhibitions and give themselves an excuse to do behaviors they wouldn’t do when sober. girls in particular. liquid confidence. not just for guys. i have seen so many get drunk on purpose and then hit on guys. one party i was a junior and a senior gal - a manager of the student paper - i was sitting next to just planted one on me and suggested going to the bedroom.
