EPA Head Confident That States Will Follow New Carbon Emissions Rules

WASHINGTON -- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy said Friday that she believes most states will ultimately comply with her agency's proposed new rules on carbon emissions.

The rules, which were released earlier this year and are supposed to be finalized by June 2015, set new limits, specific to each state, on greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. Each state, however, will need to develop its own plan for meeting those standards. Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA can impose its own plans on states that choose not to submit one, and can legally compel states to follow those plans.

It’ll be easy! Just shut down your power plants and gas stations.

Exactly what I was thinking.

And this statement confirmed it.

But she thinks her agency can get most states to agree that "the better thing for them is to do their own plans."

lowbridge:" Congress? Whats that?"

At no point has Gina McCarthy shown any science or statisitics to support EPA analysis, and in fact , she refuses !!
Another case of FEDGov. 'over reach', without Congressional oversight.
Same response as required by Islam : SUBMISSION !
..and lie to the Kieffer (infidel).

"In the old days, didn't Congress used to pass crap like this??"

Some of the most significant changes in the US have come about because of court decisions, and this is no different.

SCOTUS ruled that CO2 was a pollutant and told EPA to regulate it with the Clean Air Act.

You may recall that Obama bent over backwards trying to get Congress to deal with this in 2009, but after the GOP walked away from it, he moved forward.

First, in 2010, he established the regs on new facilities/new plants. That set off another round of lawsuits, but SCOTUS essentially rule for Obama last June.

Also last June, Obama established the regs on existing facilities/existing plants. It is these rules that she is talking about in the article. As you would expect, lawsuits have already been filed, so the court will have to rule again.

Ben Ficklin:" SCOTUS ruled that CO2 was a pollutant and told EPA to regulate it with the Clean Air Act."

Can you cite the court case ?
Not trying to arguementative, just inquistivie .
I can't get nervous, as many liberals apparently do, about a gas that is necessary for life as we know it
especially if it is only 0.002 % of the world's atmosphere.
I would suggest that Gina do a "Lewinsky" on an automotive exhaust pipe.

It’s actually about 0.04 percent of our atmosphere, but still small.

Here's an action plan:

State (substitute Commonwealth where applicable) of __________

Be it resolved by the State of ___________ Legislature and Executive in concert, that the EPA has and continues to promulgate regulations designed to coerce the State of ___________ to enact measures detrimental to the economy, the environment, the people of the State of ____________, and the peace and dignity thereof.

The Government of the State of ____________ hereby petitions the United States Congress to Abolish the Agency and offices of the agency heretofore known as The Environmental Protection Agency, and to review the regulations promulgated thereby for their effect, economically and environmentally, and void those which have a greater deleterious effect than a beneficial one....
