My failing memory denies me again ...
Haven;t we walked away from bases established already ?
If so ... we build, become effective then walk away to build again under the banner of something new is about to happen ?
Or am I nuts AND old ?

Is Turkey going to be okay with it when the Kurds want an independent nation that includes a huge chunk of their territory? Turkey's in NATO. NATO countries are working with Kurds. Couldn't that have the US and the EU with conflicting alliances?
What a mess.

Am thinking this isn’t just about protecting & training the Kurds and/or fighting I.S. - it’s a good longer term strategy though.
