The police hadnt even come for him. When four fully-armed officers of a Swat team burst into Jacob Elliotts house in Peoria, Illinois in April they were looking for the source of a parody Twitter feed that had upset the towns mayor by poking fun at him.
...
A Peoria judge this week ruled that the police were entitled to raid the house on North University Street on 15 April under the towns false personation law which makes it illegal to pass yourself off as a public official. Judge Thomas Keith found that police had probable cause to believe they would find materials relevant to the Twitter feed such as computers or flash drives used to create it.

For an internet parody.
If you do not have an escape plan in place for how to get the heck out of the Soviet States of Amerikastan, you are doing life wrong.
As a side note: As is ALWAYS the case, these days, we get the important news about America from overseas. The American Propaganda corps, formerly known (incorrectly) as the 'news media', just doesn't see anything worth reporting here.
It ain't just the state, my brother.
It's the country.
Peoria judge. Judge Thomas Keith. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprising, these days) a Republican. Tenth Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. He serves in Lacon, Illinois.
SWAT will deploy to a bake sale without question.
They’re so enamored of playing army, any excuse will do.
Wrong address?
Who cares?
It was fun practice and the taxpayers will cover the cleanup costs.
This is so outrageous I don’t know where to start. Even if we accept the interpretation of the law as plausible (I don’t), wtf justifies the use of SWAT in this situation?? This is going to polarize the people against law enforcement and the judicial system, to the point where no one one will support them.
America died with the signing of the Patriot Act.
I doubt it.
So long as they have Iphones, Big screen TVs and Pizza delivery, the people just don’t care.
"Stop Snitchin'" is going to become a white middle class philosophy, very soon.
I think we finally can agree on something.
I hope that he exercises his God-given right to self defense against every thug involved in this. Maybe police and judges will be deterred from raids if they actually face consequences for their actions.
“You know Laz, it’s all DEMOCRAT judges here that are allowing this crap too.
At every level in this state (Municipal, County, State-Level and Appellate) DEMOCRATS dominate the judgeships. Would be very curious to know who the judge is, his party affiliation and which State Rep/State Senator helped get him appointed.”
And who is voting them in or are voting for the politicians who appoint them?
How dare the Citizen laugh at the worthless mayor. Laughing at or making fun of politicians is the worst crime one could commit. Maybe parodying judges is worse.

Mayor Ardis. Asshat of the Year.
See my tag line, ARGGH!
(still getting over Talk Like A Pirate Day. LOL!)
Conside the grief Gov. Crispy Creme got for allegedly shutting down a bridge lane for political reasons. How does that stack up against ordering a police SWAT raid against a private citizen for the crime of mocking a politician. The mayor should resign as well as the Chief of Police over this abuse of power. I hope the ACLU settles for nothing less.
I’m not so sure. Have you seen how many “law & order” boot lickers there are here on FR? They will defend any action by the cops.
I’m going to guess that this mayor is going to use the “ABLOO BLOO BLOO I was raped as a child, therefore nobody is allowed to make fun of me” defense, or something similar to that. I’m sick of thin-skinned little pussies crying “victim” and being rewarded for it, especially since it’s not about empathy but about control.
