Or carbon. $4k is not much to spend on a quality bike.

Chromolly frame, and the running hardware, brakes, gears, pedals, shifters, can all be pretty expensive.
Especially in a racing bike.

When it comes to competitive cycling, you can easily spend twice that on just the frame alone.

That's a time trial bike, they're the type used in triathlons - they're made for high speed cruising, but aren't safe in close quarter situations.

A lot of people spend $10,000 or more on them.
