NEW HAVEN Former Gov. John G. Rowland, a political rising star who crashed a decade ago in a corruption scandal, fell again Friday when a jury in federal court found him guilty in a low-rent scheme to collect secret paychecks from rich Republican congressional candidates.
After deliberating for seven hours over two days, the jury convicted the 57-year-old, three-term governor of conspiracy, two counts of falsifying records in order to obstruct an investigation, two counts of causing false reports to be filed with the Federal Election Commission and two counts of exceeding campaign contribution limits.

Good riddance, again.
While not excusing his ilk, I do find it interesting that apparently there are no Democrats out there with behavior that merits prosecution.
I am sure Rowland and his family find that interesting also.
Nope. Dianne Fineswine comes to mind. She steered multi-million dollar contracts to companies owned by her and her husband. She definitely enriched herself through her official capacity in the Senate. Meanwhile Dineesh Desousa, Governor McDonald, and other Republicans go to prison for minor violations. Only the Republicans get prosecuted.
There is a DOUBLE standard in this country’s politics.
This was clearly a witch hunt. I don’t mourn for Rowland but this is like the conviction of Tom Delay.
It happens. Dan Rostenkowski, Dem from Chicago and former chairman of the Ways and Means Committee spent tome time in prison and the Ohio congressman who looked as if he wore a Possum for a hairpeice did as well. I forget that fellows name.
Rising star?. He was a good governor, but he made mistakes (not going after the repeal of the income tax and not being conservative enough, and I'm not going to say that he should have done more for the Whalers.)
Ohio congressman Jim Trafficant.
What would it take for the Feds to indict the current governor, Dannel Malloy (Commie - CT) for serious campaign law violations?
He shut down a state park and beach for an entire summer day so that Obama could use it as a helicopter landing area for a nearby fundraising stop, and also wrongly used State Police manpower to keep the beach shut down. So, he essentially converted State property to private use, and also made a huge contribution in-kind (of the State’s property) to Obama’s campaign.
All of those are felonies, aren’t they?
But expecting corrupt Washington Democrats to enforce the law against a corrupt Connecticut Democrat is wishful thinking.
His cot in the bighouse has hardly cooled off.
Why do they keep doing this stuff? They should know by now that they’ll be nailed. As they should.
(don’t forget Blago, he’s ‘doing time’)
Now, both palms have been caught being greased.
Connecticut politics is so rift with sleaze and filth. Both sides. Just scratch the surface and the infection starts to ooze.
It’s still wrong. Don’t care who does it.
They all take oaths. Which are meaningless to them.
RINO pure and simple.
Rowland was born in the wrong era. He is more suited to the 1800s and the Gangs of New York.
Malloy is a key player in our *post-Constitutional* wave. Fits the role just fine. He doesn’t have much time left for a Hussein appointment to a cushy post-gov career.
The difference is that Tom Delay was innocent. John Rowland was born to be found guilty. This is also not his first rodeo and so he is not only guilty as charged but guilty of gross stupidity as well. Some witch hunts turn up actual witches.
The elections laws are written so that selective enforcement can be used against certain party affiliations.
