Could ISIS Hurt Franken's Chance for Reelection?

While incumbent Minnesota Sen. Al Franken (D) has a comfortable lead in opinion polls, some are wondering if his relatively muted response to ISIS actively recruiting soldiers from Minnesota will come back to haunt him in November.

Minnesota has been a hotbed for ISIS recruitment, with over a dozen residents of the Twin Cities traveling to the Middle East to fight for the Islamic State. Two have been killed.

Mike McFadden, the Republican candidate for Franken's seat, has jumped on the issue of ISIS in Minneapolis by portraying Franken as ineffectively combating the terror threat.

More from ABC:

Hours after the release of the ISIS video showing the execution of American journalist Steven Sotloff on Sept. 2, McFadden blasted Franken for his support of the president’s “foreign policy blunders.”

He later said Franken was “asleep at the wheel” after the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported on a federal grand jury investigation of an attempt to convince 20 to 30 Somali men to leave Minnesota and join ISIS.

“This is a very, very serious issue, and it has not received the attention from Sen. Franken it deserves,” McFadden told ABC News. “We’re sitting here today six years after Sen. Franken and President Obama were elected, and the world is a more dangerous place.”

While Franken wrote a letter to the Department of Justice asking for assistance on addressing the matter of his constituents being successfully recruited to terrorist groups, McFadden called the effort “a day late and a dollar short.”

Franken was narrowly elected in 2009. Despite polls earlier this year showing low favorability and approval ratings, he leads recent polls by 13 points.

You vote for a comedian, you get a joke.

Seems appropriate.

Well, the population in his state is a large percentage Muslim, so of course he will be mum. He needs to ISIS supporter votes to keep him in office

Franken only won because the globalist elites had to get Norm Coleman out. He was speaking out too much against the UN and all of the other internationalists who want the U.S. under their control.

The most ardently stupid liberal I've ever met here in California came from Minnesota. His hatred for everything and anything even remotely conservative was extreme. He was part of my conversion from apolitical into a staunch conservative. He hated everything about Reagan and really started me to investigate for myself. He also turned out to be a two faced liar and a backstabber. He really made an impression on me that liberals are sick in the head and downright evil in their ways. Oh btw, his dad happened to be a college professor in the Cal state system.

They were awake and they let Franken steal the election. His vote for Democratcare hasn’t reduced their zeal for him. It’s a nightmare that America would elect a clown. It’s a sign of decline.

The election THIEF would have to actually have been elected, for him to be able to be re-elected.

This POS STOLE the election through standard DNC election thieving strategy. Keep the vote open till they get enough then shut it down.

Yep. I'm an Minnesota State alumnus and remember clearly when the ELCA first being sponsoring these savages. The first few were nice kids from the Christian and Animist part of Somalia who worked hard and appreciated what the locals did for them.

After a wave of favorable stories about the initial few nice kids, they started importing Muslims with an entitlement mentality who had NO BUSINESS being brought to the USA in the first place.

Norm Coleman, who was then mayor of St.Paul, insulted the United Nations masters by saying we should be able to screen which refugees we wanted, not what the UN assigned to us. That's what helped get him elected to the U.S.Senate seat in the first place.

Anyway, these concerns were brushed aside in the name of diversity and this is what Minnesota ended up with. The Somalia Muslims also found that Minnesota and Maine had the most generous welfare programs in the country and invited all those from elsewhere.

Minneapolis, which was once a nice middle class city, mostly Scandanavian and soft-headed liberals, now has dangerous no-go areas full of Somalia Muslims. I think Portland, Maine has suffered a similar fate.

As a matter of fact, I still know this guy. He lives in my neighborhood but I haven't spoke with him in 30 yrs or so. He never moved out of his parents home, he lived with them until they recently passed away. Now he has the house to himself. He married a local elementary school teacher and moved her in with them and they've lived their for over 30yrs with his parents. She's the only girl friend (now wife) he's ever had in his life.

But here's the real kicker.... He's in his late 50s now and HE'S NEVER HELD A JOB IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE. I am not kidding. He played a little guitar in a band for a short while and that's all he's EVER done and that was back in his early 20s.

Being a lazy judgmental liberal has been very very good to him I guess. He's a case study

I don’t think Minnesota is “a large percentage Muslim” but they have more than most places. When I was in the M-SP airport this past Spring it seemed like half the staff were Muslim.
