Sen. Ted Cruz pledges $250K to NRSC

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has pledged $250,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee from his campaign coffers, part of an effort by the freshman to go all-in for the GOP as it battles to retake the Senate majority in this fall elections, a source familiar with the commitment told POLITICO.

Cruz announced his pledge at an NRSC lunch event on Tuesday, the source said; his $250,000 is part of $3 million in pledges lawmakers made to the group.

Cruz is an NRSC co-chair, but he had not been perceived as a major fundraising force for them this cycle, making the $250,000 more significant. The Texas senator also is fundraising with conservative outside groups that he had stopped raising funds for during the primary season, when those groups were working against Republican incumbents.

And at a recent event with donors and elites at a Texas ranch, Cruz helped raise $100,000 for specific candidates, the source said. At that gathering, his political team presented attendees with detailed polling data of the 2014 battleground races.

The moves come as Cruz, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, has been trying to broaden his reach and goodwill with establishment figures, while also demonstrating that he has a grassroots base that he can energize behind other candidates.

That's a shame. But as vice-chair of the committee, he probably had to. I hope he does something to earmark it to help a conservative.

It is a shame, but he did have to do it for a number of reasons. Hopefully he’ll have some say in how the money is used, the particular races, and the messaging.

The NRSC only listens to money so Ted is just getting their attention.

This is exactly what we want. We want to infiltrate the republican establishment with conservatives. I didn’t know he was a NRSC co-chair.

Especially if Tillis is gonna blow it....and he might. There is still time however. In 1994, the Contract with America wasn’t rolled out til about 40-45 days before the election. And media is faster moving now.....

So maybe there will be a national message coming at some point.

"we wanted Joe Carr..."

Joe didn't get enough votes. It's time to man up and move on to get rid of Dingy Harry Reid running the Senate.

That was MY money he gave to them. Cruz still has my vote (so far), but no more of my money. It makes me sick to think of the smirk on the NRSC’s faces after telling them off when the asked me for donations. I guess I’d be a fool if I thought that ANYONE was immune to Potomac Fever... Sad.

Oh, for heaven's sake, are we going to throw Cruz under the bus now?

Don't expect me to do it. If you're looking for perfection from any man, you should build a time machine and go back a couple of thousand years; that's the only way you'll find one.

I’m not throwing Cruz under any bus. I think I made it clear that he still has my vote.

Not contributing to the NRSC, whether directly, or through Cruz as a middle-man, is what I’m doing. You said it yourself, Cruz is not perfect. I won’t help him make these mistakes.

I’m not “looking for perfection”, but I’ve been around long enough to have been burned over and over.

I seriously doubt that Cruz has been overcome by Potomac Fever. Emotionalism clouds reality.

"flame away I have my big girl panties on"

You may have your "big girl panties" on, but you're sure not sounding like an adult. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is certainly not adult behavior, and I consider voting for a looser so that a Democrat wins is equally reprehensible.
