BEIRUT (AP) Islamic State fighters backed by tanks have captured 16 Kurdish villages over the past 24 hours in northern Syria near the Turkish border, prompting civilians to flee their homes amid fears of retribution by the extremists sweeping through the area, activists said.
For more than a year, the Islamic State group and Kurdish militias have been locked in a fierce fight in several pockets of northern Syria where large Kurdish populations reside. The clashes are but one aspect of Syria's broader civil war a multilayered conflict that the U.N. says has killed more than 190,000.

Why do they want themselves to go down in Eternity
as the Organization, with the Impostor King,
that created by abdication
this disgusting, raping, beheading hydra of slavers?
And where did the tanks come from? Were they American tanks taken when the Iraqi army ran away? Now we are going to send more arms and ammunition to the so called moderate opposition in Syria along with training. This will likely end up with ISIS, as well. I wonder if most of the ISIS heavy equipment and weaponry is American in origin or supplied by the US through Benghazi?
If our president had wanted to wipe them out he could have.
It should be pretty easy for Obama to take out those tanks with air strikes from our A-10s.
Oh, wait........

Per this link, ISIS has destroyed a few M1 tanks, and one looks undamaged from this ambush, but merely stuck in a ditch. The article always shows that they definitely drove away with two M113 personnel carriers.
My guess is that ISIS is using stolen MRAPs and M113 etc - and the media as usual is calling them tanks by mistake.
An M113 is very simple to operate and maintain. An M1 tank is pretty easy to operate...but maintenance would be very difficult. Even the act of hauling the M1 around would be a challenge (a standard low boy won’t do). My guess is that ISIS may use any stolen tanks they may have to stand guard in the cities they were stolen in - but probably they aren’t moving them around all the way to Syria.
Taking towns is the easy part. Keeping them is another thing, especially in an environment where the locals are at their highest level of motivation to get rid of you. The Kurds will operate 24/7 to retake this turf.
Level them.
Every time ISIS takes control of anything, flatten it.
