Hey Sky, the reason folks want to split is that there are millions of us conservatives who are disenfranchised by the lunacy from Sacramento, demoncRAT super majority.
So before you get all high and mighty and start slamming CA, you would do well to understand the politics behind such a movement...the CONSERVATIVES want to be a separate state...to leave the liberal morons (redundant) and go on about our lives in peace.
I can imagine at least 2 CA states under such circumstances...

California probably has more conservative Republicans than most red states.
However, due to the decades of liberals gaining control due to LA, Gay Frisco, San Jose, Sacramento, etc., outsiders forget about us.
The proposed state of Jefferson is probably about 75% conservative.
It was a quote from another blogsite. As for being "high and mighty" as you write, I don't care one way or other about Calif. I see what's written about that state and feel for the people living there with Jerry Brown as their gov.
One with SF, LA, and most of the coast; the other with San Diego as its port, San Joaquin Valley, Fresno, Stockton, Sacramento... Roughly an east/west split. Perfect...
