The under-16s will have to live with the consequences of the vote longer than the older people, so why draw the line at 16? 7 is traditionally considered when someone reaches the age of reason, so why not let anyone who is 7 or older vote?

eighteen is too young to vote. Perhaps 21 but I would prefer 25.

We have a local gal running for state rep straight out of an ivy as a legacy student, living at home with mum and dad, working at a halftime job to supplement the trust fund. Sweet kid but...

Never supported herself, never paid taxes, never had responsibilities. Convicted leftist like the rest of the family so also has never thought for herself.

sigh

I agree.

But if Scotland is like America, the 16 year olds are as qualified to vote as most of the older people who happen to be idiots.

Absolutely. They're just children, for Pete's sake. They have NO idea what they're voting for.

In my opinion no one should be allowed to vote unless they have worked at a responsible job for at least 2 years and supported themselves.

They should be no less than 24 years old. The founders feared that people who never had any responsibility in life could not be expected to make responsible decisions about government.

Originally only property owners were allowed to vote.

Owning property in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s was the best proxy for having had adult responsibilities and being capable of making intelligent, responsible decisions.

97% of all eligble have registered to vote. I find that amazing. It would be nice if we had even close to that participation rate here.

And yes...I mean I would like greater voting rate among THOSE eligble.

I have my doubts about 16 yr olds voting...but have no issue with allowing 18 yr old voters.

16? No wonder they’re messed up as a country. It’s bad enough we let 18-year-olds here can vote.
