Richard Blumenthal calls out NFL after Rice
Politico ^ | 9/8/14 | Jonathan Topaz

Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Monday called on the National Football League to increase its domestic violence penalties following the release of a video allegedly showing Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his now-wife.

His statement Monday afternoon came minutes after the Ravens announced that the team had terminated Rice’s contract and around the time that an NFL official announced the league had suspended the player indefinitely.

“It shouldn’t take a video to do the right thing,” the Connecticut Democrat wrote on Twitter. “I commend @Ravens but urge @nflcommish to act on harsher penalties for domestic abuse.”

Earlier on Monday, Blumenthal released a statement calling for the NFL to increase its suspension for Rice, which was initially two games.

“The video released today emphasizes how egregiously weak and wrong the initial penalty against Ray Rice was — as the commissioner has acknowledged — and it constitutes new, powerful evidence that requires the commissioner to reconsider and reach a stronger punishment,” Blumenthal said in his first statement. “The NFL took a positive step forward with its new policy on domestic violence, but in the wake of this new video, allowing Ray Rice to take the field after only a two-game suspension would be a disappointing step backwards.”

As usual, liberals are terrible at minding their own business. The NFL and the Ravens should be free to administer any penalty (or lack thereof) they desire to Rice; Rice's wife did not want to press charges against him, so he should not receive any criminal charges. The liberals' War on Real Football shows no signs of stopping.

How many NFL teams play in Connecticut?

I am sick of the NFL but it is hilarious to see both these entities fight it out.

After last year's profits NFL team owners enjoyed, politicians have their hands out. They have them open if you volunteer to contribute, and they have a fist in the other hand to extort it from you.

Choices are nice.

You can say anything you want, so long as it is politically correct. If not, you are going to be purged.

Welcome to Amerika, comrade.

It’s all about money. The wife beatings, kid whipping, steroid raging antics of the players is just to direct public attention away from the cash the politicians want.

How bout you worry about ISIS or Ebola getting into the US like the constitution requested of you and STFU about something that you have no say over?

Is this really your priority right now Blumenthal? How about hearings on the deficit and the US going to hell in a handbasket under your watch, you know, sh*t that really matters to everybody else?

I loved the commentary trying to reason out why Rice’s fiance stayed with him. They basically said “She is too mentally incompetent to make rational decisions but we aren’t going to help her”.

The NFL salary cap is tied to the TV revenue. I don’t recall the exact percentage, but each team’s salary cap is less than each team’s TV revenue. While there are other expenses for NFL teams, basically an NFL owner is in the black on TV money before he sells a single ticket, jersey, hot dog or stadium parking spot. And don’t forget the tax breaks he squeezed out of the local potentates when they built his billion dollar playground for him.

Being an NFL owner is like owning an entire oilfield that never runs dry. You cannot lose money. Which is why the average franchise is valued at over one billion dollars.

Which explains all the flies being drawn to the pile.

Please refer to DICK Blumenthal as “Stolen Valor Dickie”. I have no time for scum like him who lie about their military service.

For a really good time, get Richard Bloomin’liar to tell you all about his valorous service in Vietnam. He used to talk about it all the time until somebody looked up the actual records and found that, although he was in uniform at the right time, it seems the closest he ever got to SouthEast Asia was the takeout window at Panda Palace.

And the government, too. They just can’t keep their hands off any pile of money, no matter how it was obtained.

During WW2, my dad was in the Army Air Corps and mom worked at the Chevy plant. They socked all their money into war bonds. Everyone knew the bonds were going to mature before they retired. At the time, the government told them that if they rolled them over into new bonds when they matured, they would not be taxed on the gain.

Guess what they found out 30 years later? Yep, the rules had changed.

It’s better that they advocate that viewpoint (stupid as it is) than they advocate the FemiNazi belief that Ray Rice should be given a life sentence and that Janay Rice should be forced to attend a “women’s crisis center” paid for by taxpayer dollars. It is clear that she was generally an aggressor in the relationship, but arresting her instead of Ray wouldn’t let the IRS collect as much revenue.

I’ve noticed the FemiNazis and their liberal adherents have been pushing the “end domestic violence” agenda quite heavily as of late, which I view as code for “let the government break up your family even if nobody else in the family wants it broken up”. Feminists believe that women are blameless, holy victims and that men are all evil, stupid brutes, so they have an agenda in painting Ray as the villain.

Personally, I think Ray Rice’s wife is rather homely. Ray probably realizes it now too. My bet is that this won’t be her first concussion.

If toll road and toll booth promises didn't teach anyone about what government's word is worth, then I suggest they believe in unicorns and wood fairies.

So I guess your parent's lesson taught you something? I am quite sorry for them however. Theirs is the greatest American generation of their century.
