Rather than talking about the plantation mentality, debates or plane rides, Rob Maness -- at least on this day -- spent Wednesday telling voters about his plans to deal with the growing crisis in Iraq.
It was a rare day when a Louisiana Senate candidate wasn't hurling allegations against the competition.
Of course Maness has certainly played a significant role in the Senate mudslinging, taking credit for being the first to condemn both Sen. Mary Landrieu's flight and residency controversies as well as Rep. Bill Cassidy's comment that Sen. Harry Reid runs the Senate with a plantation mentality.
Yet, he claims, the negative atmosphere of the race, despite near daily, allegation-filled emails from his campaign, isn't steering the course of his campaign. Instead, he says, the focus is on promoting his #SolutionsForUs initiative. Communications Director Kurt Bardella said the tactic of sticking to the issues is working for Maness.
"The combination of missteps and controversies from Sen. Landrieu and Rep. Cassidy have given Col. Maness an opportunity to gain some traction. There's been a steady stream of events where he's picked up a lot of momentum," Bardella said.
While there are no poll numbers to back the assertion, it's true Maness has used to controversies to raise his profile, landing a primetime spot on Fox News and appearing in the Washington Post and New York Times during the height of his challenge to Landrieu's residency.

fix your own state. it will benefit the conservative cause much more gloriously. let states that already have a conservative tradition mind their own gardens.
Maness is a wonderful candidate. I hope he picks up steam against the frankly snoozerific and RINO Cassidy.

Golly gee, like I haven’t heard that argument before. Are you with the Republican Establishment or something?? Do you not want the people of Louisiana to be aware that there is an alternative to their hand-picked candidate? Here’s Cassidy’s record. Is this conservative enough for you?? If so, go ahead and vote for him.

All the primaries are over except for Louisiana. I’ve been trying to get name recognition and support out there for conservatives all across the country for two years. Short of giving money which I don’t have, it’s the most I can do from here in MA. What have YOU done?

Cassidy: “Landrieu Supports (Obama’s) Agenda 97% of the Time”

Ruston, LA - “Barak Obama’s agenda has been awful for the American Family… and Senator Landrieu supports that agenda 97% of the time,” Congressman Bill Cassidy (LA 06) told Lincoln Parish News Online (LPNO) in an interview earlier today in Ruston. That remark was in response to the question of why he is running for for the U. S. Senate, and against incumbent Mary Landrieu.
Cassidy said that agenda has hurt Americans because it has “taken (away) their choice of healthcare,” and is “hurting their ability to get a good job with good benefits.” He added, “If she wins, the Senate continues to be a rubber stamp for this agenda that’s hurting the American Family.”
Cassidy said he is best positioned in the state to beat her, and feels duty bound to try.
Said Cassidy, “I’ll give up my congressional seat – that’s the risk you take – the greater goal is I am not going to be passive as this president and this senator who supports him 97% of the time, I think does things which are incredibly harmful.”
Cassidy, 57, came to Louisiana from Illinois at ten months of age, when his father went to work in one of the petrochemical plants along the Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge. He graduated from Baton Rouge’s Tara High School, and got his medical degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) Medical School.
He was first elected to the Louisiana State Senate in 2006, and won his Baton Rouge-based congressional seat in 2008.
Cassidy credits his love of the state and interest in politics from reading at an early age A. J. Liebling’s book, The Earl of Louisiana. That book chronicled Louisiana Governor Earl Long’s final years in Louisiana politics.
Asked why he entered politics later in life, Cassidy says he often counsels young people who want to be involved in politics to “have a life first.”
Said Cassidy, “People will respect you more, and your judgements will be sounder if you’ve actually had to live under the laws that others have passed, and you’ve actually had to make a living and make decisions.”
Landrieu has held public office continuously since 1979.
Cassidy acknowledged Landrieu’s support in the past from some in Louisiana’s business community because of government “earmarks.”
Said Cassidy, “Senator Landrieu is related to people by blood, marriage, and government contracts.”
But Cassidy thinks that since the earmark process has been significantly curtailed since 2010, her ability to garner support from that practice will be also diminished.
Qualifying for the Tuesday, November 4 election is August 20-22, Early voting will be from October 21 to October 28.
Based on some preliminary polls that I've seen, it looks like if Maness dropped out to support Cassidy, Cassidy might beat Landrieu outright and not even need a December runoff.
No one likes a busybody. Especially a pretentious one. Fix Massachusetts. The people of Louisiana already make better choices when it comes to senator than you do in MA.

I’ve been meaning to tell you for quite some time how much I appreciate your hard work and diligence in posting all the many threads on primaries and elections around the country. I’m stuck up here with a couple of doozy Senators and only a handful of Pubbie congress critters, so I like to see what’s happening in races in other states. The threads give me a better understanding of the various candidates and who to root for.

Thanks. That’s nice to hear. Living in MA, I know how you feel. But I was determined to do what I could, so I did my best keeping people apprised of what was going on. I hope my efforts may have made some politicians lives and campaigns a little more difficult while helping some others get the word out. It’s been a very long campaign!
