A group helmed by a major donor and policy adviser to Democratic Senate candidate Michele Nunn is under investigation by the Georgia secretary of State for alleged voter fraud.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R) said in a memo, reported by WSB-TV, that his office has received numerous complaints about voter applications submitted by the New Georgia Project, an organization launched to register and turn out voters to the polls.
Preliminary investigation has revealed significant illegal activities, including forged voter registration applications, forged signatures on releases, and applications with false or inaccurate information, Kemp wrote in the memo.
Nunn is running against Republican David Perdue for a Senate seat left open by the retirement of Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.). Democrats see the race as a pick-up opportunity in a year where they are largely playing defense.
Most polls have shown a close race, with Perdue leading Nunn by three points in the most recent survey, conducted earlier this month.
Republicans are seizing on the allegations against the New Georgia Project to tarnish Nunn, suggesting the group was part of a larger effort by Democrats to expand the electorate by any means necessary.
The serious allegations of illegal activities and potential fraud from liberal voter registration groups are outrageous and should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law, said Perdue spokeswoman Megan Whittemore.
The New Georgia Project and its parent organization, Third Sector Development, were issued subpoenas this week demanding documents relating to the allegations be turned over to the Georgia Election Board by Sept. 19.
Third Sector Development is run by Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D), who has contributed to Nunns campaign and was listed on an official campaign strategy document as a proposed member of a group of potential policy advisers.
Abrams said in a statement she was saddened by the subpoenas, and that the group is working to comply with them.
The abrupt release of this subpoena saddens me as I know the efforts of this organization have been done with the mission of increasing voter registration and engagement in the most disadvantaged and underserved groups in the state, she said.
The New Georgia Project team has worked directly with the Secretary of States Office every step of the way, seeking to address any concerns raised by their office or by the counties, to share information and be transparent on our work.
A spokesman for the group, Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock, said he was hopeful that this investigation by the Secretary of State is not intended to thwart efforts to enfranchise voters."
Perdue's campaign accused the group of tampering with the election process.
The fact that an organization led by a well-known Nunn supporter would attempt to illegally register voters is unacceptable and reminiscent of the Obama-political machines ACORN scandal. There is nothing more fundamental to our democratic process than maintaining the integrity of our elections and any attempt to tamper with them is deplorable.
Voter fraud in Georgia is limited and very, very restricted: It only occurs in racially-segregated democratic precincts and democrat-theocracies led by democratic-run city and county dictatorships (er, governments).
Gotta get out the welfare vote you know...
I believe you nailed it.
You are profiling!
Voter fraud in Georgia is limited and very, very restricted:
UNLESS “your WRONG” and it is very very widespread!....
You know...... not EVERYWHERE... but ALMOST everywhere..
Especially in blue and purple areas.. like Mass, Conn, NYC...
Same is true here in Missouri. Very little if any fraud in out-state Mo, Kansas City and especially St Louis get the dead dim/ illegal vote out in force. Haiti runs fairer elections that St Louis.
Hey look: Democrats committing voter fraud.
I bet Eric Holder will really look into this. not.
Eric the Red is too busy suing states that try to reduce voter fraud to have time to actually investigate it.
Unbelievable, Salon, one of the most repugnant left wing propaganda sites weighed in on this: http://www.salon.com/2014/09/11/panicked_georgia_republicans_look_for_an_edge_suppressing_black_votes/
Looks like Salon took the outline for the article right out of Holder’s playbook that there is no voter fraud.
“Republicans are seizing on the allegations against the New Georgia Project to tarnish Nunn, suggesting the group was part of a larger effort by Democrats to expand the electorate by any means necessary.”
As Mississippi establishment republicans expanded the electorate in the Mississippi Republican primary by any means necessary.
Georgia: Democrat Fraud . . . (but I repeat myself)
GA FReeper ping.
Expected.
Thx Yosemitest! Will send it around, once I review it it(8
Fascinating.
Good job by the SOS to nip this in the bud before the first Tuesday in November...
You’re welcome.
Pass it around, to wake up the sleeping masses.

You should reread the post to which you replied; it refers to voter fraud “in Georgia,” which obviously says nothing about voter fraud in NYC, etc. His point is that the only places in GA in which there is voter fraud are places controlled by Democrats, and particularly places with an overwhelmingly black electorate in which there is virtually no Republican Party that could stop fraud.
