A fall in gas flows from Russia to two Eastern European countries this week has sent a chill through the region as it prepares for possible energy shortages this winter.
Slovakia's gas distributor SPP said Thursday its daily gas intake from Russia fell 10% below contracted levels starting late Wednesday. Polish gas company PGNiG said its gas flows from Russia had fallen 45% below its contracted daily volumes by Thursday.

Fear not...... the Ukraine problem is winding down.
By winter, the gas problem will be solved. People won’t freeze and most importantly, Putin can send out the gas bills and get paid.
Who run Bartertown?
Perhaps they can somehow substitute OPEC oil for Russian natural gas? I hear OPEC will be having some oil that isn’t being sold. Maybe they can get it at a cut rate?
Part of the Qatari network, no doubt.
How are they going to run oil in their natural gas furnaces and power turbines?
Would be nice if the environmentalist NIMBYS would have let us build those LNG terminals.
Ummmmmm.... Who would have ever thought it was a real good idea to depend on their butts not freezing on the USSR2?
I am no expert. That’s why I said “somehow” as I’m sure modifications would have to be made.
EU: When you’re freezing your ass off this winter, remember when you stiffed the Ukraine last Spring when there was time to nip this in the bud.
You underestimate the problem.
Perhaps your car could run on coal.

They should fear not. The US will send plenty of fuel. And it will cost much more for Americans to heat this winter.
Wouldn’t it just be a matter of shifting markets? If China is now buying the Russian gas, then that means China isn’t buying from someone they used to buy from. That seller will direct they supply elsewhere and eventually everything will adjust.
I’d think, though, that the previous relationships were the most efficient in terns of delivery. Delivery costs will probably rise, so the price will go up. Hopefully not to dramatic levels.
But you know the fuel speculators....they just love to create imaginary crises so they can engineer a huge price rise.
Pays for people to keep in mind with winter approaching all kinds of things will ebb and flow to get ready for it. Sides will use these ordinary happenings as political fodder.
Your care about Europe is touching :)))
You make good points. And in the end you basically can see that we will pay.
