Landrieu Ad Touts Border Fence She Once Called "Dumb"

Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is running a new TV ad that accuses her Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy, of being soft on border security for opposing a fence on the Mexican border.

The problem? Landrieu herself called the fence “dumb” in a speech on the Senate floor last year, when she expressed regret for her earlier vote in support of it.

In the three-term senator’s new 30-second spot, a narrator notes that Cassidy has been criticizing Landrieu on the illegal immigration issue, even though he has opposed building a border fence.

The ad then cuts to video footage of a 2010 town-hall meeting, in which Cassidy says, “Our threat is not the folks coming across the border.”

The ad then notes that Landrieu “voted to double the border patrol, build triple-layer fencing, and voted nine times to block amnesty.”

But in her 2013 speech on the Senate floor, Landrieu struck an entirely different note on triple-layer fencing.

“I voted for the dumb fence once,” she said at the time. “I’m not going to do it again because I learned my mistake when I went down there to look at it and realized that we could build two dumb fences or three dumb fences, and it’s not working. So I am simply not going to waste the money to do something that I know will not work.”

Landrieu’s attempt to turn the immigration issue to her advantage is especially notable in light of President Obama’s announcement over the weekend that he would not use executive action to implement immigration reform until after the midterm elections.

Obama’s decision was quietly hailed by Democrats who face tough re-election battles in deep-red states where the immigration issue remains particularly toxic.

Just amazing.

Now granted, she is simply pandering because the tide turned against her. But a freaking Democrat has proven smarter than many Cheshire3 conservatives who continue to fight against a fence (a REAL fence).

Perhaps one of them can replace her in the Dem party once she is excommunicated from their ranks. They obviously share liberal desires. Oh...but despite their helping keep the no fence memes up front and center, Don’t anyone DARE question their ‘patriotism’.

I, unfortunately, have to agree with the Landrieu clone. A fence is dumb, dumb, dumb. A 25-foot, reinforced, concrete wall is needed from Brownsville to San Diego.

Is she planning to build a fence on the Gulf? Or maybe to keep out people from Arkansas?

Landrieu can speak with some authority. She’s dumber than a fence post.

Bill Cassidy is not fit to be a Republican if he opposes a fence.

I hope he's not yet nominated.

No, he’s not. Louisiana’s primary is on election day. Then the top two people go against each other in a runoff in December.

Rob Maness has been surging lately and may overtake Cassidy by November. But we’ll see.

Let us not forget that Rick Perry has used every weasel word in the dictionary to make excuses for not supporting a fence.

And yet plenty of ‘conservatives’ want him as our president.

They're not conservatives and neither is Rick Perry.

“I was for it before I voted against it.” That seems to be a common Democrat line. It is tough when you have to continually lie about what you believe in order to get elected.

Are LA voters going to continue voting this lying sack back into office?

Well, you, me and perhaps 20 others here see that clearly. The fact that many on FR do not is the really disturbing thing. Facts and his history as a Gov in service to LaRaza and home grown libs do not seem to matter.

The recent love fest thrown for him about a week and a half/two ago, combined with the latest round of “I’d vote for Mitt again” leaves me looking for ‘hope.

At least Romney espoused a good policy on Illegals.

Whether he could be trusted to implement it is another matter...but he had, and currently HAS the toughest position related to illegals.

Cut 'em off, deport all who encounter LEO, force all Hospitals to report them and imprison all who hire them.

And out toughest of the current crop is Cruz...who would legalize those living here now. He just won't call it Amnesty.

So far, a despicable crop that should be plowed under to save on water and fertilizer.

Sessions being the LONE exception.

It is an election year. She has to fool the sheep. Wednesday after Tuesday’s election she will be back calling it dumb again. Look for her also to become a supporter for the right to keep and bear arms also. The sheep eat this one up.

“Our threat is not the folks coming across the border.”

Maybe this IDIOT will learn not to parrot Karl Rove if he actually wants to WIN.
