And when the Germans lose, sometimes it is straightforwardly characterized that way. I don't know if anyone else has a similar impression, which is surprising given the general importance attached to propaganda by the Nazi regime.Good propaganda has to be sounded in credibility.
Also remember that our view of the Nazis is filtered through 70 years of biased history. If all you hear about is the death of 5 or 6 million people, you are missing most of the story. (Starting with the story of the other 5 to 6 million exterminated).

It wasn’t just the failure to clear the estuary. The failure to seal off the escape routes allowed tens of thousands of German troops to escape to the east with some motorized transport and heavy guns. (German 15th Army?) These troops played a key role in stopping Market Garden.

It may have been back about the time of Dieppe that I observed that the British always seemed to use commonwealth troops when the perceived risk of casualties was high.

The General Who Outblitzed the Nazis Not Patton, but Bradley. A study in the makeup of the remarkable General Bradley who's personality was in stark contrast to Patton. Usually, a good organization has different personalities and traits that can be used best for different purposes, as seen here in the Generals of the Allied offense.
