Federal Complaint Says Hog Farms Are Racial Discrimination
National Review ^ | September 5, 2014 | Katherine Timpf

Environmentalist groups accuse hog farms of violating civil rights.

Environmental groups have filed a civil-rights complaint against hog farmers in North Carolina, claiming that by maintaining farms near neighborhoods where minorities live, the pork producers are engaged in illegal discrimination against minorities.

The 48-page complaint explains that the farms create problems for surrounding neighborhoods such as foul smells and runoff in the water.

The crux of the complaint, which was filed by Washington-based EarthJustice and three other environmental groups in the Tar Heel State, is not these problems themselves, however. The four environmental groups object to seeing these problems occur in neighborhoods where “people of color” are more likely to live.

The groups also cited issues such as not being able to hang laundry outside and the humiliation that comes from family members’ not wanting to visit.

This might be form the Onion.

If it’s serious...I bet a thousand to one, the farms were there first and the houses moved in next to them.

NC needs a freedom to farm law.

Right. And people of color never eat pork.

If you look at a factory farming map,
http://www.factoryfarmmap.org/#animal:hogs;location:US;year:2007
you’ll see farms are located according to where they are most productive. It has nothing to do with abusing minorities.

There are hardly any cattle operations in NC. IS that discriminatory? The density of hog farms in Iowa is much greater. WHy don’t they sue? Perhaps they like their jobs?

“.I bet a thousand to one, the farms were there first and the houses moved in next to them.”

Yeah. Funny how those houses next to hog farms, rendering plants, air ports, steel mills, are more affordable than those on the ocean front. I wonder why?

Which came first? Were the hog farms put next to existing housing, or was housing built (on much cheaper land) next to the hog farms?

I always thought that Islamics ARE leftists who are hiding behind a false religion.

Well, okay then-ask the hog farmers to move their operations next to the gated neighborhoods so that nobody feels left out...

This isn’t really new. Greenies have been complaining about environmental racism for years. Usually it’s around some chemical plant or refinery. The land surrounding such facilities is usually less than desirable for habitation, resulting in lower land prices which is attractive to lower income home buyers.

You can bet your bottom dollar if the hog farms were minority owned, not one damn word would be uttered. EPA is second only to DOJ in being racist AND Marxist.

Probably because the residents worked on the farms.
