"But the fact is, truancy rules in the District are selectively enforced, depending on your Zip code.

The 8-year-old living in a homeless shelter and attending a school overwhelmed with transient children — where truancy can be a sign of something dangerous — racks up 30 absences before someone has the time to notice.

But over in the Other City, where some D.C. public schools are as fancy as their neighborhood, the little concert pianist is collared and the truancy police are on high alert."

Translation - Get the white girl ...

Sue the District for denying opportunity from their child.

Take the kid out of government school and avoid contact with government to the maximum extent possible.

Why wouldn’t playing in a concert be considered for an excused absence, unless the parents/teacher failed to apply in advance??? Do you know which school this was?

In D.C., truancy means actually going to school.

It’s a good thing W.A. Mozart didn’t go to school in D.C. As he started playing piano and composing before he was 6, he would have been thrown out of kindergarten and banished to the local reform school for re-education.

Her mother is Asian; if she shot a black thug, she’d be a “white Asian.”

The ten day rule applies in our district too.

The way around it is to plan ahead and get a study packet.

The truant officer:

Jealous of talent? Committed to leveling the piano-playing field? Or is she just a nasty, affirmative action idiot?

Mozart and Chopin were white Europeans, so the music is considered a form of hate speech.

Well....since she does go to Public School....child abuse. I firmly believe the school has the right to make the rules. She didn’t abide by them and should suffer the consequences. Couldn’t her parents call and say, “She is out today”. Unexcused absences are lazy anyway.

The truancy law gives them the option to decide what an unexcused absence is. The law states that an excused absence can be “an emergency or other circumstances approved by an educational institution".

If the above statement is true, it is hard to see any rationale for the decision to label this gifted young woman a "truant". Typical public school idiocy!

Being good at piano shouldn’t get you a pass. Read up on James Booker — one of the greatest piano players ever. He took every drug and performed every vile act there was. He was as evil as evil can be.

I wonder if there’s fed money involved in some way in regards to truancy rates, etc.?
