Rep. Peter King: Obama Has "Absolute Power" To Carry Out Attacks Against ISIS

REP. PETER KING (R-NY): As a Republican, I do believe the president has the constitutional authority to take action now in Iraq and in Syria against ISIS. I believe as a matter of course, it's probably better for him to get Congressional approval, but I -- which I would certainly vote for. But I don't believe he needs it. And if that's going to delay what he wants to do, he should go ahead and just take action without waiting for Congress. This is too important to get this bogged down in a Congressional debate if the president does not believe the support is there.

If it is there, ideally he should get it. But I believe as commander-in-chief he is the absolute power to carry out these attacks.

Really? Absolute power? Like a king, or tyrant or dictator, wait that can’t be in a constitutional republic....never mind.

I’m sure mr king wants us to believe that. Wait until Obama gives orders and someone says let me see your birth certificate first. Can’t sweep it under the rug this time pal.

And Mr. King has “absolute power” to bring up the subject of the danger of islam, in the House.

He is correct. American presidents have been sending our armed forces into battle without asking Congress since Thomas Jefferson sent the Navy to take out the Sultan of Tripoli. But at some point they need more money to continue, and Congress must approve it.

Already been done by Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin. Six months in Leavenworth and dismissed from service.

It would be interesting to see the copy of the Constitution that King took his oath to uphold.

Yes but the judge ruled Obamas eligibility had no bearing on the case. That utter nonsense wouldn’t pass today. The judge clearly had to make that up to avoid a major constitutional crisis. That is not going to fly again.
This is the reason for the scramble by rinos and Dems for congress to authorize military action. The president can take military action without congress PROVIDED he meets the constitutional requirements for CIC.
Sheriff Joe has the White House very worried. A great deal about obama’s past has been brought to light since this sham trial.

Not really. Jefferson asked for, and received, a joint resolution authorizing him to used all necessary armed force against the pirates. IOW, pretty much exactly what Congress did when it authorized GWB to use force after 9/11.

I've read this more recent authorization, and don't see why it doesn't still allow Obama to wage war against ISIS, which is admittedly an offshoot of al Quaeda in Iraq.

I'm not trying to be dense (that just happens), but I'd appreciate it if somebody points out language in that resolution that limits the president's power in time or space.

It specifically authorizes the President to do so "in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorization_for_Use_of_Military_Force_Against_Terrorists

Has it expired?
