LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's government will set out plans in the coming days to give Scotland more autonomy on tax, spending and welfare if it rejects independence in a referendum on Sept. 18, British finance minister George Osborne said on Sunday.

What happens either way....less power situated in London, and more decisions made in each region.
Sounds like London is getting nervous; frankly, Scotland should go for independence and given London the middle finger. This is like Obama saying he’ll give conservatives more freedom of speech as long as the conservatives ask for his permission to speak.
David Cameron wasnt too bothered about giving Scotland a vote on the future of the UK. It was easy to ignore the fact that the rest of the UK was being excluded, simply because he didnt think it was going to come to anything.
David Cameron "could not possibly survive" as leader if Scots vote for independence, as Tory rebels plot to depose him in a furious revolt.
Wonder how much North Sea oil revenues are playing in as a factor in this?
John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde University, added: A Yes vote would destroy Camerons place in the history books.
He would become known as the prime minister who gambled on keeping Scotland in the union and lost his gamble.
I’d agree up to a point, but what the free-Scotland crowd hasn’t told their supporters....is that they’d have to join the EU immediately and get some financial support to jump-start their government machine. There’s a great deal of fear as well that social society requirements will screw up Scotland within five years.
I will say this....if Scotland and Catalonia (of Spain) goes independent....it’ll trigger a wave and at least a dozen European entities will split. We’ll all have to buy new maps by 2016.
Likely; chances are if not for the oil revenue London would give them the middle finger and tell them to bug off. All that revenue will go straight to Scotland. That to me is the main reason that London is holding on so fiercely.
Just do it.
I read German speaking Northern Italy wants to join Germany, because they are prosperous and the rest of Italy not so much.
Thing is, that independence is never easy. It took us here in the US until 1865 (end of the Civil War) to be a fully set up independent nation without slavery and we did have our issue with states each issuing their own currency (pre-Civil War) and various other major issues until we had it all figured out.
Southern Ireland had their problems and so far things are going steady. Not a major world power, but certainly it is functional. Scotland might not even want to join the EU and they will have all that oil revenue going directly to them, giving them more of a jump start than most independent nations are able to enjoy.
I don’t believe the EU will be accepting new members until 2016 (so I’ve heard, I’ll have to research) and put frankly I believe that Scotland will in fact go through the same problems and factional fighting, but that is in fact freedom for you.
Being a desperate clingy type is usually a turnoff.
millions of socialists leaving the UK is a good thing.
Socialist Scotland can now become even more socialist, good luck to them and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
