WASHINGTON (AP) - Caught between competing political demands over immigration, President Barack Obama will now wait until after the November election to take executive action that could shield millions of immigrants from deportation and ignite a clash over the extent of his presidential authority.

Obama's decision abandons a pledge he made June 30 to act quickly after summer's end, and it prompted an immediate and furious backlash from immigration advocates. But in the past several weeks, the pressure for swift measures from pro-immigration groups ran up against fears from Democrats that acting now would energize Republican opposition against vulnerable Senate Democrats

Two White House officials said Obama concluded that circumventing Congress through executive actions on immigration during the campaign would politicize the issue and hurt future efforts to pass a broad overhaul. They said he fully intends to act before the end of the year.

If it is true that more than 70% are against this AMNESTY business, how Obama can get a pass even after November, with even fewer Democrats in office, I’m sure I don’t know.

A law broken by a president and rebuilt to suit himself can not be enforced because he has no legislative authority. What he constructs from the law he broke is not law, but more of an art project using crayons and canvas, but it is no law.

He is simply forcing his own impeachment and removal, in favor of golf. He sees how well things worked out for Bubba Clinton and is unafraid. He sees that there are no real consequences, no real price to pay, but many millions to be made and million dollar homes to enjoy. I think he’s done and beyond redemption.

Great opportunity for the GOP to build a campaign around “last chance to stop amnesty”. Unlikely they will, though, that’d motivate too many Americans to go to the polls, and winning national elections isn’t part of the party’s culture.

The question now is, how many of these disgusted illegal immigration supporters are now going to boycott the polls in November? I'm sure there will be more than a few who now won't show up to vote (legally or otherwise) for the democrats.

Add to that, the number of independents that can see right through this bald-faced scheme to wait until after the election to grant amnesty -- they too won't be voting for democrats.

But that's the no-win situation that the smartest president in history got himself into -- anger American citizen voters with decreed amnesty, or anger a bunch of illegals who can't vote (legally anyway) to whom he made promises.
