Green Group Suggested Video Cameras to Spy on Farmer
The Daily Signal ^ | August 25, 2014 | Kevin Mooney

An environmental group that stands accused of overstepping its inspection authority and trespassing across a Virginia farm also tried to have video cameras installed to monitor the property.

An officer of the Piedmont Environmental Council proposed that one of that group’s board members “runs a security company and could offer the use of security cameras to record visitors,” according to documents examined by The Daily Signal.

Martha Boneta, who owns Liberty Farm in Paris, Va., last year sued the Piedmont Environmental Council and others because, she said, PEC encouraged Fauquier County officials to harass her with citations of zoning violations and other actions.

As previously reported by The Daily Signal, Boneta says PEC’s inspections have gone far beyond what is required to assure compliance with an easement on the property.

Documents obtained by The Daily Signal show the environmental group sought not only to monitor Liberty Farm through increasingly invasive inspections but also to install the video cameras to monitor visitors.

However, the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, a quasi-state agency created by the state legislature to preserve open space, would not go along.

I’m reminded of a four-star hotel that the DDR folks opened in the early 1960s up on the north coast. Roughly 400 rooms....each floor had a room with listening post and at least two microphones in each single room, which they monitored various DDR citizens while they were on vacation. Full and complete reports were done on occupants while on vacation, and sent to the regional file depository for each individual. Years later, after the wall went down....West German companies came in to check out the hotel for a property purchase. The aspects of the bugging made the hotel a problem. Not sure if anyone ever bought the property. As for the agents for the resort? I’m kinda wondering what they do today for a living.

DEFUND DEFUND DEFUND THE EPA!

They are as bad as the IRS....worse, at least most of the claims on your money from the IRS are more or less legitimate.

No...IRS is getting worse.

Making claims against college students, because IRS is too lazy to read attached documentation.

What an odd coincidence that a place called “ Liberty Farm” would be targeted by leftists. I wonder if the IRS knows about this guy?

Why not just attach fart detectors to each cow’s butt with a transmitter to send the fart volume / count data to the EPA office so they can issue citations for each occurrence of flatulence? It would be a great easy money maker for the Feds. That’s why they exist, right?..../s

If you look at the other articles on this matter, you’ll find that the IRS IS going after her.

And the fact that a former Clinton IRS Commissioner sits on the board of this fascist environmental group? Purely coincidence.

Right.

In Virginia, it is illegal to record unless you are one party of the conversation. Seems to me that video monitoring in this case would be illegal, not that the lib AG would do anything about it.

In my county, in WA State, the Storm Water district was using a plane that belonged to one of the State Dept of Fish and Wildlife to monitor private property for violations. The State pulled the plane when it became obvious that the activist groups were colluding with the commercial interests and county government to facilitate the construction of a coal terminal in WA. The activist also lost their state funding and the county planning guy was let go, also.

Gal, not guy.

I know a little more about this than the average bear, through connections in NoVA and some emails that have been going around. Martha’s a Conservative and active in local Republican politics. There’s no doubt in my mind thats part of the reason she’s being targeted.

Also that she’s really attractive. Not much Libs hate more than an woman who is not only Conservative but attractive as well.

I used to drive by that place every other weekend on US-17, beautiful country up there. I assume they want to take over the place to make it part of the State Park that is nearby.

"If you look at other articles on this matter"

There have been previous FR threads on this situation and there are multiple problems.

She bought this 64 acres from Piedmont and there was an environmental easement that she hasn't honored so Piedmont is trying to force her to honor the easement.

She also has problems with the county.

She calls it a farm but it is only 64 acres with a few fruit trees. Mainly it is a retail store housed in a rustic barn that she sells some of the fruit but mainly other goods that she buys and resells. She also rents out/hosts social events like birthday parties & wedding receptions in this barn. She doesn't live there.

The county is on her because there are no bathrooms in the barn for public use and she doesn't have a parking lot and her neighbors complain that her guests park in the road and block the two lane road down to one lane.

There has also been mention of tax problems but I don't have details on that.

It appears to me that when this area was first developed it was low cost residential with truck farming, but in the intervening years it has transitioned to large, high dollar residential estate homes. And this gal was able to get the property cheap because of the easement and wants to bend the rules to make some money.

None of that justifies video surveillance by green nuts.
