By REBECCA KAPLAN CBS NEWS September 1, 2014 At Labor Day Event, Obama Pushes GOP To Raise Minimum Wage
In the spirit of Labor Day, Obama promotes boosting minimum wage President Obama used a Labor Day event to tout economic gains and chide Republicans for not joining him in promoting policies he says will help working Americans, his latest push on a campaign-year issues that Democrats hope will boost their support at the polls this fall.
Mr. Obama traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin Monday to speak at Laborfest, an event he visited in 2008 during his first presidential campaign. Despite a host of foreign crises he has faced all summer, the president's focus was on domestic news, which is decidedly less gloomy.
"I've got a vision of an economy where opportunity is open to everybody who's willing to work hard," the president said. "I want an economy where your hard work pays off with higher wages and higher incomes and fair pay for women and workplace flexibility for parents and affordable health insurance and decent retirement benefits. I'm not asking for the moon! I just want a good deal for American workers.
"...If we had a Congress that cared about policies that actually helped working people, I promise you we could get everything done that we talked about doing," he added. "But until we have that Congress its up to us to fight for those policies.

Democrats know their base is stupid.
Actually their base does what is logically correct.
Vote for free stuff.
That may be poor character, but it’s not stupid.
“If we had a Congress that cared about policies that actually helped working people, I promise you we could get everything done that we talked about doing.”
Right idea, wrong party.
For two years the Dims controlled EVERYTHING (the WH, the Senate, and the House; they also controlled most of the federal judiciary). And at that they had overwhelming majorities in Congress. So, one has to ask the question: Why, when the Dims held such power and control, did they NOT pass a minimum wage Act?
It's arguably not stupid but nonetheless reflects a naïve understanding of the word free.
For some reason they also failed to pass “card check” whereby an union can impose itself on the workforce without a secret ballot election.
Never did understand that one.
I think they held back on that because of legal challenges.
Surprising, given the way they rode roughshod over most everything else without worrying about “laws” (Obamacare, GM bankruptcy, etc).
Big Brother Government laws guaranteeing people more than market value for whatever they contribute are just another aspect of the growing liberal insanity known as wealth redistribution.
Traveled to Milwaukee, eh?
After weeks of fund-raising in New York ans Long Island ...
And where was Putin? Where was Putin’s headquarters while he was at war, while ISIS is at war, while Iran and North Korea are at war?
Maybe someone in his Pravda-Media could ask him when he will repeal the onerous regulations he has placed an all businesses? That extra money could go to hiring more people so more would have jobs. Also, business owners might be able to reward good employees with more raises.
Translation: “Too many blacks are working. Let’s raise the minimum wage to throw more of them out of work.”
Why didn’t Obama and the Dems do it themselves when they held Congress?
Is it because they knew the voters could only take on job killing bill at a time?
Well, that leaves out 47% of the population.
Card check was mostly a state matter. At least initially.
Reducing costs and drilling would solve the problem. raising wages only solves the symptoms. inflation and taxation always follows.
They indeed always make the GOP carry waters.
it is a communist Hamas method to always make the opponent look like he is the one shedding the blood one sheds off of oneself.
It is stupid in that it will run out and if they don’t learn to live without the handouts, they will suffer greater than most.
