London could be the scene of a Mumbai-style terrorist "spectacular" if Islamist jihadists get their way, British security chiefs have warned. There is growing concern that a list of "soft" targets is being drawn up, and that weapons and explosives have already been smuggled into the country.
The Sun is reporting that the SAS has moved part of its anti-terror team to a forward base near London, amid concerns that a prolonged attack may be staged in that city. MI5 also referred to the Mumbai atrocity of 2008 as a comparison, in which coordinated bombings and shootings took place over four consecutive days, killing 174 and wounding a further 300.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "The nightmare scenario is they mount a spectacular attack at a high profile location. They may try to storm a building, take hostages, rig it with explosives or kill at will."
The threat has caused the official 'threat level' to be raised to severe, increasing tensions in the city and prompting people to share warnings of an imminent bomb attack on the London Underground on social media and via text last night. The threat was dismissed as a hoax after the head of the British Transport Police took to Twitter, posting: "Social media contains lots of rumours regarding threats to tube network tomorrow. There is no specific threat so keep calm & carry on."
However, Twitter user David O'Neill pointed out: "Must say though. If you raise the threat level to severe you can't be shocked when people believe stupid rumours about attacks on the tube."

London as well as NYC would be easy targets. Cities with a significant number of concealed carry holders would be bloody, but a much different story and a much quicker containment of the threat.

The two scum who murdered Lee Rigby ran him over then jumped out and in seconds hacked him to death. They were armed with machetes, knives and at least one gun.
By the time people were aware what happened (remember most people thought he’d been knocked down accidentally by a car), Rigby was dead.
They attacked him on a normal street where people were out shopping, and several men tried to intervene but were attacked, they would only allow women to go to the body.
What were people out shopping, with no weapons on them, supposed to do?. Come on Rambos, tell me?.
I am sick of the macho BS from the US on this. Yes, we all know y’all would have done killed them Moozlims with your 45’s.

The Brits forgot why they were so dominant a hundred years ago. Lots of their best and brightest were killed in WWI and WWII.

“The American Rifleman” which is a monthly publication of the NRA has a section called “The Armed Citizen”. You might want to read a couple decades worth of accounts.
Just to remind you buggery poofty pom, in WW1 the stupid Brits couldn’t manufacture enough rifles. We made them the Pattern 14. In WW2, the Brits couldn’t manufacture enough rifles...there was a drive in the USA to provide spare rifles to you poofters. Our reward? After the war your government chopped them up to scrap.

No dude, you folks HAVE given up your rights, most particularly your right to self defense, pretty much the most important right. Maybe Lee Rigby was killed too quickly for anyone to have been able to save him, but that is only one instance.
You’ve all agreed to be treated as infants by your government, a government that has now revealed it imported hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people from other lands because it just didn’t like you plain old Brits very much at all.
Even after you had built them an empire that encircled the globe, even after you all defeated hitler, to them you all were just too uppity, maybe too Christian, certainly too provincial and just not good enough for ruling.
And now you are letting them win, you are letting the Muslim imports raped your children and murder your soldiers.
I suggest you all start to try and do something to bring the tragically sad and bathetic post war history of britain to an end and make a new beginning for yourselves.

Sir, I can understand your sensitivity to,the fact that your citizenry has passively allowed successive Liberal dominated governments to disarm law abiding folk.
Here, we have a second amendment and it is considered by non Liberals to be a god given right not a government given right. Basically, WE don’t generally worship at the altar of government either like your citizens do.
This results in hundreds of thousands of people being able to produce a weapon in SECONDS and STOP exactly the kind of situation you describe. Indeed, it happens EVERY DAY in the US and more so in states where the second amendment is supported by local,and state governments UNAMBIGUOUSLY, LIKE TEXAS.
So, yes, damn straight!.....chances are HIGH that some “citizen” would have pulled out a .45 and blown these scumbags to hell in SECONDS and “possibly” saved this young soldiers life.
Most of us admire Brits and Scots! But, we pity you that you have allowed your passivity towards government and politicians and your pathetic NEED for government generally to put you in a situation where all you can do is stand by and watch!

Firstly, I am Scottish and British, so I am a junkie kiltie wearing Jock, not a poofy pom.
Secondly, your history is wrong. The British DID produce enough rifles and munitions in general, the problem was we needed even more as the war dragged on. The British companies like Enfield and Vickers were at full stretch, so we had to pay US and Canadian companies to make more. Britain paid the US companies to manufacture. You were paid to do it, you didn’t offer out of the goodness of your heart.
Also, are you aware that American troops in WW1 relied on the British and French for any heavy weapons?. The AEF was supplied by the British and French in tanks, heavy artillery and planes, as the American forces in France didn’t have any tanks, planes or heavy artillery. If you think I am telling lies, go check the history. Even an ultra-patriot like Stephen Ambrose mentions it in his last book.
Thirdly, WW2, again, we were producing at full capacity and needed again US and Canadian factories (never forget the Canadians).
The American citizen rifles were gratefully received. What happened to them is unfortunately a lot of myth.
When the Home Guard was stood down towards the end of the war, the rifles were primarily taken and melted down for war production. They were NOT, as myth now says, thrown into the sea (which makes no common sense for a start, even before being inaccurate). In fact, as another poster recently pointed out, some actually were returned to the US and are now very valuable guns at gun fairs in your country.
The idea the British have not or have given up the right to self defence is complete rubbish.
I KNOW its not true, as I had to invoke it in 2008 when my flat was burgled. All I got was commended by police and court.
Also the law has been STRENGTHENED twice since 2007 in FAVOUR of the homeowner/defending/attacked party. In 2012, a Manchester man legally killed a burglar.
We don’t use Nippon for Japan, etc. and even then, shouldn’t “mumbai” be capitalized in the headline?
