Ebola Could Eventually Afflict Over 20,000, W.H.O. Says (Why Would It Stop There?)
New York Times ^ | August 28, 2014 | NICK CUMMING-BRUCE and ALAN COWELL

GENEVA — As the tally of deaths from the worst known outbreak of the Ebola virus continued its seemingly inexorable rise, the World Health Organization said on Thursday that the epidemic was still accelerating and could afflict more than 20,000 people — almost seven times the current number of reported cases — before it could be brought under control.

The dire forecast was made as the W.H.O. reported that the number of known cases and fatalities had risen once again. The organization also acknowledged that in areas of intense transmission “the actual number of cases may be two-to-four times higher than that currently reported.”

The outbreak “continues to accelerate,” the organization said.

I don't get the premise of this article. 20,000 cases is a drop in the bucket compared to the total population. For example it is less than a tenth of a percent of the population of Lagos alone. Does the virus have a meter in it that suddenly forces it to stop infecting people at the 20,000 mark? What happens at 20,000 cases that WHO thinks will make it possible to bring it under control?

Maybe that’s the point where WHO and UN force the airlines to stop going there?

The economic cost of treating and burying the affected will be enough to bankrupt a society. I think the WHO is way off base because as the medical facilities get overwhelmed, the numbers are going to escalate due to those that cannot get treatment, supportive care, or buried properly.

Oh that’s an easy question: Obama laid down a red line.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

And if they can’t control it now with much less cases what makes them believe they can control it at 20,000 cases?

The premise of the article appears to be if it stays in Africa ... what if it gets out of Africa, like to India?

Not the exact link though, the headline itself.

20K is very conservative if it’s in West Point slum. Very conservative.

Notice the comma on the end of that number? I think they forgot to add the next three zeroes myself...

There is a very real possibility of over 20,000 cases in the quarantined West Point slum of Monrovia alone within the next couple of months.

The most shocking aspect of this is that fellow freepers actually give a crap about what the WHO or the NY Times postulates about anything.

The amount of new cases begin to rise exponentially. They can’t go public with that. The exception being if effective quarantine measures cause Ebola to burn out.

Those who are similar to the ones that raided the clinic and in doing so caused the patients to flee will be typical of those that end of dying. Ignorance is going to extract a heavy price and in the process nations will be crippled.

They are not burying them...they are being put on a pyre and incinerated. IMHO, the BEST way to get rid of an infectious body. Army burial plans for massive causualties are written on how to dispose of LOTS of bodies. Bulldozers, large fans, a pit, and a hot bed of ashes to guarantee 100% inceneration. I’ll try to find the FM.....saw it in our mortuary affairs MOS library once.

It looks like Ebola infection rate has gained critical mass. I expect it won’t burn out until the major cities are hollowed out and the survivors have enough people with immunity to slow the infection rate. Africa just does not have enough money, education, and order to contain this.

Political correctness is stopping us from properly quarantining travel from Africa. Political correctness is a modern cult supported by a hardcore cadre of true believers with some sort of mental disorder. There is also the “intellectual” set that think the planet is overpopulated who are smiling at the prospect of living in an idyllic empty earth.

They forget the The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse; Conquest, War, Famine, and Death, ride together and that even the rich, the mighty, and the beautiful will face death and ruin in the chaos created by a pandemic.

It will arrive here. We have an ineffective government which is afraid to do anything because the disease affects primarily Africans and the Europeans who are trying to cure them.

The true leftist wants it to come here. After all, it’s “unfair” that it should infect Africans. Let those evil colonial Whites suffer too.

My bet is 20,000 is when they quit counting.

I believe after that they will be so overwhelmed they can only pull out and let it take it’s course and they wont know what people are dying from.

A lot of people will probably be killed in an attempt to stop the spread before they die naturally.

“A lot of people will probably be killed in an attempt to stop the spread before they die naturally.”

I suspect this is why food and water rationing in the West Point slum are minimal at best right now. Weakened people can’t rush the barricades as effectively.

I remember seeing those plans years ago.

Very efficient set up for the disposal of thousands for each pit.
