If you start in Genesis, you can read the story of Abram and Sarai. They were married a long time; had no children.
Sarai wanted a family, so she offered her “slave maid-servant, Hagar”, an Egyptian woman, to her husband in the hopes they would have a child.
They did .. but the child was a son, Ishmael, and according to Jewish law, he could not become the “son of promise”. It all had to do with the Jewish Marriage Laws. During a Jewish Marriage, the couple enter into a covenant. Thus, only children born under the covenant are legitimate children in the family and entitled to the inheritance.
However, shortly after Ismael was born, Sarai conceived and bore a child named “Isaac”. That’s when their names were changed to Sarah and Abraham.
Therefore, Isaac is the “son of promise”, and inherits all the land and goods from his father, Abraham. Ismael believed he was entitled to the inheritance (being the first born son); but he failed to understand that only Isaac was a product of the Marriage Covenant.
This whole mess in the Middle East is very simple: It’s a war between two half-brothers over the land God gave to their Father, Abraham. The first born son of the “covenant” inherits ALL.
It’s been going on since Genisis .. and only God will be able to put a stop to it .. and HE will .. very soon.
