I would have liked to have seen photos of the first white house. Since it was burned before photography, we have nothing but drawings of it. Sad loss and arson is not nice.

Yes, that would have mitigated the intense bad feelings Americans still hold over this loss. ;-]

I remember seeing a photograph of a section of the White House facade that was being repaired. The sandstone walls are a yellowy cream color that, while attractive, was also quite jarring.

IMO, the Brits did us a favor.
