First, the President should take swift action to ensure that migrant children with parents or other immediate relatives in the U.S. are not torn away from their families and sent back to Central America.
This year, more than 30,000 children have been released into the custody of sponsors, who are often their parents or relatives. But if a child is ultimately unable to secure asylum or other relief, she will nevertheless be deported.
This policy is morally misguided.

The amount of foreign aid that we currently provide to Central America is paltry. According to the governments website ForeignAssistance.gov, U.S. agencies granted a combine total of $238 million in the 2013 fiscal year to Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions sought to beef-up border enforcement.
We should give more. Increasing foreign aid is not only a humanitarian way of addressing the migration problem, but is the most cost-effective approach. Enforcement measures are expensive and may not deter people who face terrible conditions in their home countries.
Foreign aid and support, on the other hand, help improve conditions and thereby gives people reasons to stay. Children will not make the long and treacherous journey to the U.S. if they can lead peaceful and successful lives at home.

Sometimes stupidity is so flagrant it does not deserve a reesponse. I see a host of crickets here.
“First, the President should take swift action to ensure that migrant children with parents or other immediate relatives in the U.S. are not torn away from their families and sent back to Central America.”
Aroint thee, knave.
The president should take swift action to ensure that illegal alien children, even those with parents or other immediate relatives in the U.S., bloody well *are* torn away from their families and sent back to Central America. Unless these relatives are themselves aliens and violated the law to get those children here, in which case the relatives should be deported with the children.
We need to engage in a veritable orgy of deportations, until no illegal aliens remain. Then we can start taking a hard look at green cards.
“We should give more.”
*You* give more, Mr. Bleeding Heart. And while you’re at it, give some to me.
They should not be torn away; the entire family unit should be sent packing.
Bump
I agree.
lolz!
nice one
Hard to understand how destitute, unaccompanied kids as young as 6 months old made their way over 5,000 miles, found the USA and knew enough to walk up to the first ICE agent they happened upon.
But if King Obama said that the way it happened, that must be the way it happened.
It’s the only way to be sure. :^)
The illegal children who have hooked up with a parent or other illegal relative should be deported along with that parent or relative.
Truly orphan kids should be adopted out to American citizens to be raised up right.
