It was just after dark when Michael Martin, 56, was walking back to his home in New Orleans Marigny neighborhood, after helping a friend move. At the time, Martin was caring for his dementia-ridden mother, and was anxious to get home, as his long-time partner, Eric Webb, was the only person there with her.
I really was walking through a neighborhood that I dont think the people who live there walk through at night, Martin said.
As he approached an interstate overpass, the division between St. Roch and his Marigny neighborhood, Martin heard laughter from a group of children, no older than 13 he believed. It was summer after all, and while dark, he didnt think much of the roving group of middle schoolers, until he was struck from behind.

The victim’s route took him to the wrong side of the Bell Curve.
Obama’s kids.
Clearly he's a racist. And since he's gay, none of the usual black victimology lobby will care.
Tough call of what to do when one PC privileged people group oppresses another PC privileged group.
Ferals vs. Gays.
Sounds like the makings of a bad SyFy movie.
Nobody talks about the fact that Baby Trayvon’s last telephone conversation with his girlfriend indicated he was going to play the Knockout Game on some gay guy.
It’s just harmless whoop-a**, Right?
Which is why it gets local news coverage only.
I’m glad to see that Katrina hasn’t changed the place.
The middle schoolers were probably 18.
Gay white males tend to be some of the most anti-gun jerks to walk the Earth.
Anyone else see something fishy here?
Try chanting “hands up, don’t beat”. That should work.
These are flat out hate crimes and it angers me that the victims in the story are making excuses for their beatdowns by these black youths by saying things as this is resentment towards gentrification, or “they were bored”. Please. If a group of white youth had done this beatdown, especially to Mr. Martin, the national media would have gone down to New Orleans and turned it into a feeding frenzy. Of course the race of the assailants was not mentioned. Naturally.
A long time ago MERV GRIFFIN had on four men:
Older rabbi and young Jewish man
and
Older black man and young black man.
The two young men TRADED "oppression" stories; the old men just sat and listened.
Finally, Griffin said it: "What is this, "a 'whose the most victimized' contest"?
EVERYONE laughed EXCEPT the old Rabbi and the old black man.

THAT little scenario brought it all home!
oh cry me a freaking river. This has nothing to do with poverty. There are a heck of a lot more 'poor' white children than black children and the poor whites don't roam the streets with baseball bats looking for victims to depersonalize into nonhuman targets. It has to do with parenting. It has to do with glorifying attacking the old and the white by racemongers, perpetrated by rap music, hatemongers and communist teachers who fill children's heads with how mean and horrible whites have been through history as if they've accomplished nothing at all.
Any psychologist will tell you that an attack to the head is an act of hatred. It's seen in domestic abuse cases all the time.
Mike Martin is 56, but must have lead a rough life, looks much older. It’s easy for me to say,’why not just move away?’. Maybe there is no money to relocate. Even if he owns his home, it may be difficult to sell it, unless just to demolish the building and make a parking lot from the land.
This is a deep problem, and the parents of these hoodlums either see nothing wrong with their race-hate crimes, or have given up trying to influence their kids for the better. This describes a slowly decaying city. If you get the right caliber of legal immigrants or some ambitious native born Americans who want to start businesses, a rebirth is always possible.
All the Left’s groups should be pitted against one another. I for one eschew violence, but I cannot condemn these children of color for fighting back against a white oppressor who refused to check his privilege.
Wow, you nailed it.
