Armed men attacked an Ebola isolation ward in the Liberian capital Monrovia overnight, prompting 29 patients to flee the facility, witnesses said Sunday.

'They broke down the doors and looted the place. The patients all fled,' said Rebecca Wesseh, who witnessed the attack and whose report was confirmed by residents and the head of Health Workers Association of Liberian, George Williams.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian man was today at the centre of an Ebola health scare on the Spanish Costas, which contains an estimated British population of more than 82,000.

This is the last thing we need; a massive attack on an isolation ward with patients fleeing in all directions of the African continent and of course, to other countries around the world.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Good news in the sense that the Jihadists will now catch the deadly bug for which there is no cure. They love to wallow in blood. Perhaps the virus will do what no one else has been able to do - wipe them out.

Superstition combined with colossal ignorance and conspiracy theories is signing the death warrants for thousands. This is about the worst thing which could happen. The entire country must be quarantined at the very least but I’m afraid PC will prevent it.

The realization that they have signed their own death certificates and those of everyone they love will come too late.

Deutsche Welle article on same incident using several sources. Despite the discrepancies in number of Ebola patients (17 here) any number of infected patients with a large viral load in Liberia’s largest city are a horror. Might well be the real reason the government shut down one of the papers.

http://m.dw.de/english/mobile.A-17859597-9097.html

Patients missing after raid on Liberia Ebola clinic

Authorities in Liberia’s capital city, Monrovia, have warned of the spread of Ebola after a local clinic was ransacked. The patients quarantined there left the site and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Police in Liberia’s capital city had restored order by Sunday afternoon following a raid on a local Ebola clinic. However, they warned that local residents now faced a higher risk of exposure to the deadly virus, as the perpetrators had not only stolen infected items, but had also prompted patients to flee.

“They broke down the door and looted the place. The patients have all gone,” Rebecca Wesseh, a witness to the incident, told the news agency AFP.

A police official speaking to the Associated Press news agency also described the incident, which took place on Saturday evening, as a “looting spree.”

The circumstances surrounding the break in in the district of West Point remained unclear on Sunday. Witness accounts reported by news agencies suggested that a group of armed young men had attacked the quarantine center, claiming that Ebola was a fiction.

According to the Associated Press, the group stole a number of items that had visible signs of contamination.

AFP reported that 17 patients had fled the scene after the raid on Saturday night.

The current outbreak of Ebola has become an international health emergency. In the six months since the first diagnosis of the current outbreak, about 1,145 people have died across Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

Officials in Kenya have announced a travel ban on incoming passengers from the West Africa countries hit by the epidemic.

Cruise companies who hire workers from all over the world for cheap labor and hiring Africans carrying ebola? Wouldn’t this make cruising a danger at this time?

Another probelm now is that many of the foreign workers who had been caring for them have left. These foreign do-gooders have enabled Africans to not learn to take care of Ebola themselves, and these Africans don't seem willing to take on that responsibility.

At this point, the best thing that could happen would to not let ANYONE leave areas where Ebola has spread without being in a very long quarantine. Won't happen.

Good models would. If the disease spreads too rapidly, the numbers infected go tangental. That's chaos.

Not to mention that you'd have to also quarantine the people who guard the areas as well, and quarantine those who guard the guards, and so on. It is Africa, after all.

Dumb, dumber and dummest. The rest of the article reports anxiety in British Universities as they expect arrival of thousands of African students soon. How many do we expect in the US? As to whether Boca Haram might have been involved, since their name itself is anti education, then perhaps they don’t believe the means of transmission (probably Allah’s punishment for not being Muslim enough). Hope they get it and spread to ISIS. Of course, being the sweethearts they are, they will probably execute anyone who gets ill as illness proof of Allah’s disfavor.
