I agree.

I have never had a bad experience with a cop.
I say ‘yes sir, no sir’... the cops say ‘thank you have a nice day’.

If I said ‘up yours you stinking pig’ I am sure I would have had some different experiences.

I was last stopped by a cop for speeding (he had me dead to rights) a few years ago. The young cop was exceptionally polite, almost apologetic, and did not give me a ticket. That has been my average experience with being stopped by policemen. Many years ago I ran into one nasty cop who was a little overzealous after he stopped me. But again, he was right about my infraction (going through a stop sign.) And even he didn't give me a ticket.

If the police in my area were all a bunch of crazy, gun-wielding thugs, the news would have gotten around quick. But they're not. I had a friend who was a cop who died recently. He was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Categorizing all policemen (or policewomen) as crazy thugs does the cop-haters/critics no good.

Last time I got pulled over, in a known speed-trap suburb, late a t night, the cop got a little gruffed because I wasn’t taking him to seriously. I know why he pulled me over, my license plate light was out, and I was saying “sure”, in my usual, laid back manner.

He said, “You’re a smart-ass, aren’t you?”, to which I replied, “I have been told that...”.

Then he asked why I had a bank of three radios in my truck, and I handed him my Airport SIDA badge. He kind of grunted, then handed me back my license, and left.

Guess I wasn’t worth the time, he didn’t even give me a warning.

While many FReepers would disagree, you're absolutely correct.

There are always methods of redress, if there's an issue.

Meanwhile, getting into an argument with a nervous, heavily armed man at the side of the road is never a good idea. Even if you're right.
