Iraqi Refugee: People in Mosul Hailed ISIS, Drove Out Christians

An Iraqi Christian who fled for his life from Mosul says that his Muslim neighbors welcomed the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) and told him “this land belongs to Islam.”

“We left Mosul because ISIS came to the city. The (Sunni) people of Mosul embraced ISIS, and drove the Christians out of the city,” the unnamed Christian refugee, who reportedly fled from Mosul to Lebanon, told Lebanese LBC/LDC TV in a July 30 interview translated by Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

“When ISIS entered Mosul, the people hailed them and drove out the Christians,” he said in the video interview with a young child sitting on his lap. “Why did they expel just the Christians from Mosul? There are many sects in Mosul. Why just the Christians? ”he asked.

“This is nothing new,” he added. “Even before, the Christians could not go anywhere. The Christians have faced threats of murder, kidnapping, jizya (a tax imposed on non-Muslims).”

“This is nothing new,” the Iraqi man continued. “I was told to leave Mosul. They said that this was a Muslim country, not a Christian one. I am being very honest. They said that this land belongs to Islam and that Christians should not live there.”

The interviewer interrupted him. “Who told you that?”

“The people who embraced ISIS, the people who lived there with us,” he replied.

“Your neighbors?” she asked.

“Yes, my neighbors,” he said, “Our neighbors and other people threatened us. They said: 'Leave before ISIS gets you.' What does that mean? Where would we go?”

Unfortunately religious minorities have to deal with the reality of constant threats living in muslim countries. I know they’re part of those countries for as long & as much of the muslims. Finally, they’ll either learn to live in peace together or annihilate the least tolerant one even if it means pretending to be something else on the surface, for a while.

The Sunni people of Mosul are, after all, Moslems. They behave as Moslems. It is a religion that enshrines Savage Barbarism as a Holy Principle.

This is exactly what happened to many Jews in Eastern Europe and Russia when the Nazis took over. My wife’s uncle had his entire family identified as Jews by their Polish neighbors...who, perhaps not so coincidentally, ended up living in their house (as he found at the end of the war - and they didn’t live to see the next sunrise). FYI, everyone in his family perished in the camps except him - and he SAW his father and brother murdered in front of his eyes.

I take no joy whatsoever in pointing this fact out. It shows that evil still governs many human hearts, regardless of time, location or beliefs. Maybe now that many others besides Jews are experiencing this, this kind of hatred and lack of tolerance will be recognized for the evil that it is, and something will be done internationally to ameliorate it (not that I’m holding my breath that this pResident will take the lead). One can only hope and pray.

Since minorities are threatened in Islamic countries, the prudent act is to get rid of the majority so that the minorities become the new majority.

Israel is the only country in the world which treats islumics like they deserve to be treated. Everybody else bends backward. The Israeli courage should be the role model for all non-islumics.

“Say what you will, but those Christians were at least safe with Saddam.”

Maybe, depending on his mood for that day. There were/are plenty of mass graves in Iraq because of him. I seem to remember a story of him gassing his people. I also remember him invading Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Muslims always support the strongest, most barbaric factions

Hamas was stronger in Gaza and all the Fatah supporters switched to Hamas.

Duh? People of the religion of pieces, are required to support the formation of a caliphate. Mohammed is the 1st member and definer of this religion; not modern moderates. ISIS is doing exactly what Mohammed did.

The most barbaric factions are the ones operating most in accord with the basic tenets of the religion. It's in the Book.

“Say what you will, but those Christians were at least safe with Saddam.”

Um, no.

“During Saddam Hussein’s reign of terror, Iraq’s Christian population plummeted from 1.4 million to fewer than 300,000. Many of those Christian refugees settled in Syria, which was considered, at that time, a more tolerant country.”

Not surprisingly you are in agreement with the Daily Kos:

“Plight of Christians in Iraq Began When GW Bush Invaded in March 2003, Obama Urged Action in 2007”

Anyone who is not Muslim is not safe in any other Muslim country. For that matter, Muslims are not even safe in Muslim countries.

“My wife’s uncle had his entire family identified as Jews by their Polish neighbors...”

Go check the basic facts before you repeat such nonsense stories. In WW2 era Eastern Europe no one had to “identify” Jews, vast majority of them did differ from local Slavs about as much as Afro-Americans differ from Anglo-Saxons. Additionally “Nazis” took over registers and files of religious communities, they knew exactly where and how many Jews live in each town. Besides, a full scale holocaust didn’t start until 1942 and even then majority of Jews till the end was hoping they are just going to take a shower. Long before that, ghettos had been set up... the way “Nazis” announced that Jews in a given town must relocate to district x and vast majority of them just did it, no one had to “identify” them or even bring them there by force.

There’s a lot of Holocaust education in the US but it seems to be focused on “Auschwitz/gas chambers/never again”. It would be good If you guys learn a bit how it was actually organized.
