Germany, France, Britain propose EU mission to open Gaza crossing

Germany, France and Britain have proposed reactivating a European Union mission on the Egypt-Gaza border to help stabilize the Palestinian enclave after a month-long war, a German diplomatic source said on Wednesday. […]

Egypt, which was not involved in the negotiation of the 2005 agreement, has repeatedly shut the Rafah border over the past year, significantly increasing pressure on Gazans, who already face a rigid land and sea blockade imposed by Israel. […]

Egypt wants any discussion over Rafah to take place bilaterally with the Palestinian Authority, rather than as part of any deal between the Palestinians and Israel to ease the Israeli blockade, the sources say.

So Egypt under el-Sisi recognizes the so-called “Palestinian National Liberation Movement” (Fatah), which calls for Israel’s destruction just as much as Hamas/the MB does.

Israel needs to control crossings where more bombs and missiles can be smuggled in. Giving control to an openly enemy outfit like EU would be stupid. IMHO.

Yes, as long as they are not Muslim Brotherhood. Alliances in the Middle East are always very tenuous and many faceted.

Don't like the EU getting involved one little bit. Two-faced, anti-Israelis the lot of them.

I told my British hubby years ago (after experiencing anti-Americanism when living in the UK)...that I thought they should break away from the US as allies. I was tired of hearing the complaints. His silence you could cut with a knife. Funny, ‘cause he’s a flaming libtard. Seems they want our help.....but LOVE to bitch about it.

I wouldn’t trust them one bit.

Britain’s split between the US alliance (which actually represents independence for the UK) and that European Union, which is socialism. Of course nowadays, with an administration in DC that’s too friendly to the EU, they are caught out there.

Egypt’s two-faced enough when it comes to the MB. Remember that one of the grievances about Morsi is that he was too easy on Israel?

Who was doing the complaining? Wasn't it MB types who wanted Morsi to move faster?

No. The Wafd Party was the chief promulgator of that notion, and Tamarod (funny how nobody hears that name anymore, right?) ran with it.

How could it serve the MB to incite anger against Morsi when it would mean their downfall as well?

Bitching that Morsi wasn’t moving quickly enough against Israel isn’t the same as inciting for the MB’s downfall. I’d put that in the same league as our leftists who say that Obama hasn’t been liberal enough. They don’t want his downfall, they want more of his crap. I’m not sure you got the slant of my comment.

Yeah, I must have missed it.

What’s really ironic is that the Wafd Party is considered “liberal” by the mainstream media—or perhaps not, since they bought the “MB is secular” line hook, line and sinker.

I am deeply sorry that you experienced anti-Americanism in the UK.

Most British people like America and Americans (even if we don’t always like everything that comes from America, which I am sure is mutual). Remember empty vessels make the biggest noise.

I would question your help comment though. The special relationship is one created by politicians in the UK, the average British punter dosent feel the need for Britain to be helped by the US. Allies yes, saviour no.
