Obama's Iraq aim: contain, not destroy, extremists

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's new military strategy in Iraq amounts to trying to contain — not destroy — the Islamic militant group that now controls much of the country's northern region. That leaves open the questions of how deeply the U.S. will be drawn into the sectarian conflict, and whether airstrikes alone can stop the militants' momentum.

Obama insists he will not send American ground troops back to Iraq after having withdrawn them in 2011, fulfilling a campaign promise. Still, even the limited airstrikes against the vicious insurgency show the president's conviction that the U.S. military cannot remain dormant after having fought an eight-year war that temporarily neutralized Sunni extremists but failed to produce lasting peace.

**SNIP**

Iraq has been pleading for months, if not years, for additional U.S. military help to combat the extremists, but the U.S. pulled out of Iraq in part because it couldn't reach an agreement with the government on legal immunity for U.S. troops. Harf said the Obama administration acted now out of concern that "there was a crisis that had the potential to get much worse."

I am 100% sure we will be back in Iraq. If not under Obama then under the next president.

Somebody needs to wake up and realize we need to destroy global jihad. Everywhere, from Paris France to darkest Africa to its cradle in the middle east.

Unless and until that happens all non-jihadis remain in peril.

ISIS believes Obama is one of them and they have proof because he funded the training camps in Jordan to train their leadership and Obama helped ISIS take 30% of Syria. And Obama knows this. If Obama plays his cards right after he leaves office he can easily become the leader of the worlds largest terrorist organization, ISIS

...nothing, but he can always count on partisan media shills to carry his water for him. This time it’s MSNBC.

Doesn’t want to kill off his favorite muslim buddies until they have completed the task of laying the groundwork for his new caliphate.

Besides, it’s kind of hard to sneak dead muslims across the mexico-US border.

” but the U.S. pulled out of Iraq in part because it couldn’t reach an agreement with the government on legal immunity for U.S. troops.”

AND who was it that signed an agreement with the UN making our troops subject to lawsuits from foreign nations to begin with ?

Of course he doesn't want to destroy his co-religionists. He was apparently forced by military pre-emption to own the rescue efforts in Iraq but he wills that the ISIS actually succeed in their aims so he hopes to push them back a tad until the Yazidis fall off the radar then let them go again. The ISIS fight is the Washington Emir's fight. He is

on their side. Or maybe they are on his side. And Ameica is most decidedly on the other side from its CinC in this, an active World War of Religion. The dominant political partỵ (the Government Party) in the US is, unfortunately, so intent on destroying Christianity that they do not see that their tool will turn against them also after the first business is taken care of, the First Business being the destruction of heretical Moslem and the Jews, and foreign Christians.

“[Obama] can easily become the leader of the worlds largest terrorist organization, ISIS”

Part of me would love to see that happen; I just want to see how his mollycoddlers in the MSM would handle it.

But I don’t think it’s going to happen. Say what one will about those evil jihadis, but they don’t spend their days golfing and dining, so I don’t really think he’d enjoy the job.

THIS!!!
“Somebody needs to wake up and realize we need to destroy global jihad.”

although I wonder if it is even possible. I think if as we should we start to obliterate islamist there will be plenty of currently so called moderate muslims who will turn into even more radical islamists.

Who in the end would moderate muslims side with?

To knock down the current explosion of Moslem expansion we have to destroy the center of the cancer and that is Iran. We need to finish off ISIS then utterly cut off the Moslem world from Western money and resources. A very poor Islamic world is the only Islam that is not engaged in war against everyone else. Islamic countries cannot produce enough to sustain themselves, much less wage jihad, without booty gained by conquest or money given to them for natural resources or as gifts. Islamic society requires enough wealth to support a tiny ruling class in opulence and the rest of the population barely surviving. Any more goes to Jihad. The people do not produce any more than enough to survive another day because any more than that is taken by the Sultan or Emir or Mogul. Jihad cannot be waged unless other societies provide Islam the necessary resources to make war.

The leaders of Hamas are holed up in plush hotel rooms in Qatar, sipping wine and eating Lobster and buying call girls, while their Jihadists are getting killed by the IDF

I’m not 100% sure it is possible, not at all. But, the Catholics and the Protestants of Europe killed each other in droves for centuries, eventually they pretty much got over it.

Perhaps, perhaps the same thing can happen with Islam.

But, they have to be killed on the battlefield and told to STFU in the west, if that is insufficient they must be expelled. Hard to do here, but perhaps not so hard in Europe.

We must fight them all relentlessly, because they are at war with us and we are pretty much twiddling our thumbs as we whistle past the grave yard.

You see, this is how we screwed up big time in Iraq and Afghanistan. And for that Bush must be blamed.

All this nation-building and democracy, what a bunch of hooey that all turned out to be.

We should have gone over there to conquer the lot of them and sat on their heads until they got their minds right.

If we had done that we might have control of Syria too now.

But no.....we wanted to bring them to the sunny uplands. Japan after WWII should have been our model of engagement.

And if we are not going to do that, innocent people, most esp. women and children, will continue to suffer in these countries.

Once again you make a salient point
“We must fight them all relentlessly, because they are at war with us and we are pretty much twiddling our thumbs as we whistle past the grave yard.”

The difference between wars in Europe and the islamists is no other religion calls for destruction of all those who are not of your religion.
seeing supporters of ISIS stand in front of the white with a pic of their flag should scare us all.
some follower of ISIA will act here in USA very soon

Yes, I agree.

But those wars in olde tyme Europe were no joke.

I really had no idea how bad it was until I read Hillary Mantel’s Thomas Cromwell books.

I knew people got burned at the stake, but that was really not the worst thing that happened to them.

In fact, if you just got your head chopped off, well, that was a very good thing!

And this was in England, under Henry VIII and a few others around that time. One would have thought those people were civilized, well one (that is to say me!) would be wrong.

Very gruesome stuff.

I’m not saying there weren’t serious issues at stake, and I’m not at all sure the right side prevailed in the end, but I’m shocked at what went on. All in the name of religion, even if it was really about political power, etc.

So, maybe there is hope for the muzzies, I am not sure.

It amounts to “never letting a crisis go to waste.” Delaying the tough decisions here moves potential the fireworks closer to the mid-term election, or a perfect-storm, martial law scenario being brewed against his conservative, gun-toting and/or Christian foes.

The only crises which qualify are the domestic ones, which were entirely created by Zero or his supporters.

Of copuse, he doesn’t want his muslim brothers “destroyed”. But he has to look like he’s taking a stand against his brothers who are murdering women and children in the name of allah(pig poop be upon him) and his cult of satan.
