I worked for an Israeli company while GWB was in the White House. They were, for the most part, a gregarious bunch of white Americans with dual citizenship. I’d attend their parties but always left early because as they got drunk they’d start picking on me, the only Republican. (It’s not polite to make somebody look like an idiot when you’re in their house at their party.) So, there I was in some of the toniest neighborhoods with a line of expensive cars parked outside listening to these very well-off people talk like they were a communist cell in a New York slum. The wife of one said, “George Bush has been so good to Israel but he’s such an idiot.” (My mouth spent so much time hanging open I felt I should wear a strap.)
I thought there would be a riot when a Russian who had escaped the Soviet Union said, “One day, will be statue of Ronald Reagan in Red Square.” After saying in his own defense, “he ended Communism” the Russian went quiet, afraid to provoke more anger.
The Israelis were doing so well financially because they’d gotten advanced degrees in US universities. I don’t think you can get a degree without socializing with your leftist professors and agreeing with their politics.
